Problem with under engine hard line.

I'm installing a new hard line from under the engine, purchased from our host. The problem is, it seems to interfere with the heat exchangers, and doesn't line up with the bracket. Is that something I can apply heat to and bend to fit? Or what do I do?

Common I've had to reform several of these. I heat the pipe with a map gas torch slightly near the bend then move it to the mounting location.

Would a bottle/propane torch do it? I don't have anything else.

You probably got the wrong pipe from our host. Happened to me X 2! Surely our host will take it back on an RMA. They are good about that.

After you've settled that part, call Elephant Racing and talk to Chuck about their universal crossover pipe that is just for these kind of situations. Send him more photos to be sure.

Mine ( from our host) didn't fit worth a damn either. I bent it in two different places without heat only because I didn't want to mar the finish on it.

I got mine from Elephant Racing,it's a better fit but you still need to tweak it a bit for a good fit !

Fitting a new crossover line on an engine with SSI or equiv. heat exchangers is a little tricky. The tube path is in close proximity to the HEs on both sides. Typically, the driver side heat exchanger comes off to access the oil line fitting.

When fitting the new oil line, suggest reinstalling the heat exchanger to confirm that the heat and bend tweaks don't interfere with the installed HE.

Heating and gradually bending the rigid tube at several locations should provide a better fit than attempting one masterful bend and avoid reducing the ID.

BTW, the first crossover line I tried ('69) to a 3.2 didn't fit. The multi-curved tube end didn't reach far enough to reach the crankcase fitting. Another crossover tube provided a better fit. However, it still needed some massaging.

BTW, that 2nd tube is factory-equipped with a factory dent in the first curve to clear no. 3 HE inlet pipe. Not sure what year/model that came from ('74?).

ER's product mimics the '70-'71 over-the-top line but instead is entirely rigid. More importantly, it bypasses whatever exhaust system is in place. I assume just a partial engine drop is needed to snake it over the top of the gearbox/engine, but maybe not. On early 911s, one must still remove the existing heat exchanger to access the tube-to-engine connector on the crankcase. Not sure about the crossover exhaust systems on SCs and Carreras.
