Where does this heater switch belong?
Hi-
I have the heater blower in the engine bay running continuously in my '84 Carrera. It never shuts off. I removed the center console by the flapper box control levers to reveal the switch in the photo (see red arrow) left loose on the carpet. If I depress the switch contacts, the blower shuts off. Obviously, this is the switch that activates the fan when you pull the flapper box levers. It appears to have snapped off from wherever it is supposed to be mounted and its not obvious to me where it goes. Anybody know where this thing is supposed to sit? Perhaps you can move my arrow to where the switch is supposed to go... Thanks!! BG

not sure about this switch, my problem was the heater blower relay in the engine compartment hanging up. cleaned the contacts and all seems fine now. With an 87, the fan comes on with or without the heater for added cooling of the engine.

There is a good chance a bit of plastic has broken from that switch and it can no longer be fitted to the small metal "tower" that sits just in front of your twin heater levers. You may need to purchase a new switch and then fit it back on.
Pull your heater levers up fully and have a look at the base of the levers. You will see how it is supposed to fit. Failing replacing this switch, you might do what I did when this happened to me. route the wires to a switch on the dashboard that lets you control the use of the blower fan independent of the levers. I had a cutout available to me between my cig. lighter knob and the defrost knob. I routed the wires up to the dash, cut out the circle conveniently provided, dropped a knob in there, and wired it up. Presto! Pull the knob and the heater blower motor comes on. Use a bit of White Out or white enamel paint and put a clever four-blade fan glyph on the knob (which is backlit) and it looks totally factory. John
