Scyncrometer
hi Guys,
I just installed my 911SC rebuilt engine into the 1978 911SC car that I am restoring. The CIS fuel injection is gone and I now have PMO's. Since I am not re-installing the air conditioning I have the high velocity stacks on the carbs. I also purchased the Syncrometer carburetor flow meter to aid in tuning the carbs. The problem is that there is not enough room to get the meter on top of some of the velocity stacks. The meter is interfered with by the top of the engine compartment. Cylinders 1, 4 and 5 are OK and the others are not. What to do??? Will tuning work if I remove the stacks and hold the meter on top of each carb opening??? Regards, John |

I would think that if you removed the stacks and made sure the meter was tight you would be able to balance your carbs just fine

Hmmm, surprised it doesn't work. I have tall manifolds and same syncrometer, no issues hitting all barrels.

Would it cause any problems if you partially lowered the motor with the motor mount bolts

I'll look at it again tomorrow. I just noticed that there is about 15mm clearance between the rubber sleeve on the bottom of the synchrometer and the plastic main body of the same. I can trim off the top of the rubber sleeve and slide it up and see what happens.

Take the stacks off all to balance if they're in the way. I wouldn't cut the rubber on the tool.

I think that I have found the problem guys. My bad. I glued a new rubber insulation pad into the engine compartment. The pad is almost an inch thick and interferes with placing the syncrometer onto the velocity stacks. I will remove the rubber over the carbs and try it again.

Question regarding the syncrometer: I have the same model (BK) which I think has the fatter base. I'm wondering if the actual tool is the same but the rubber base can be swapped out. When I originally ordered mine, it was described as "Syncrometer with larger horn adapter for PMO". If this is the case, I bet the original poster on this thread could use the smaller rubber base.

My old reliable uni-syn has been working just fine for over 40 years with webers and PMOs. No clearance problems and don't have to remove carb parts just the air cleaner. Folds up nicely and isn't made of el cheapo plastic. Fits in the skinny drawer in the tool chest.
