Headlight switch removal. Won't move. Unable to push it back into the dash.
 

I am going to replace my turn signal and high beam stalk.
I want to pull the headlight switch out from behind the dash for easier wire transfer.

I easily removed off the knob, bezel, and washer.

But, when I try to press the shaft in, the switch won't really budge.
I looked under the dash and the wires seem to be blocking any travel backwards.
Is there a special technique to be able to push the headlight switch back an inch or two
so I can drop it down into plain sight?

I think it is just stuck, maybe some dried gunk, adhesive or something is holding it in place. The wires should not restrain the switch that tightly that you can't jiggle it loose.

Just a safety reminder, don't forget to remove the battery ground before you pull the switch.

It turns out, there was a good reason the switch was not moving.
Right behind the headlight switch is a 5 prong harness plug.
This 5 prong harness plug was directly blocking some of the other wires attached to the back of the switch.
In the photo, the red wires are blocked.

To remove the headlight switch, it's much easier to first remove the 5 prong harness plug.
It needs to be disconnected if you're going to pull the switch down below the dash, so you might as well unplug it before removing the switch.
You'll see it when you're back there. Once you unplug that plug, the switch can move freely.

Good! Strange did not have to remove my plug. Oh well, our cars were built by hand back in the day. :D
