Searching for a 1969 T

Hello,

I am looking for a specific 1969 911T. Does anyone know how to track down these cars by VIN?

I believe it was originally a California car, and it was then purchased in the seventies / early eighties and driven to the East Coast. It was then sold ten or so years later to someone in NJ.

The car is a red over black T with factory S options. I am not a 911T expert so I don't know exactly what that entailed, but I believe it is S brakes, some S interior, and Fuchs. It was a 2.2 Litre with Webers, not Zeniths. It also had foglights, H4’s, and the rockers were painted black (I think an undercoating-type paint for added rust prevention).

I actually do not know if it is a 1969 or a 1970. Could the VIN experts please chime in? I have read that the 2.2 was only offered in 1970, but I am uncertain. It also may not have been the original engine.

Any info or leads are greatly appreciated. Or any tips on how to find it through VIN. Do I contact PCNA?

Thanks!

Your Vin decodes to a 69 T Karmann body. All 69's had a 2.0L engine. 70-71 had 2.2L. So if it had a 2.2 it was a later engine. The 2.2 came with Zeniths so someone switched them out with Webers. Tracking Vin's before 81 is difficult because those VINS do not have the 17 digit standardized VIN number. You might try calling NJ DMV. Also post on all 911 boards you can find. Someone may have the car. Of course it is also likely that it has gone to the great Porsche graveyard. Good Luck.

Yes, good advice. Some states DMV will do a "title history" (for a price). It doesn't hurt to ask.

Thank you for the advice! I'll have to call the DMV in the new year, next few weeks are a bit hectic.

Did the 2.0L come with Webers? It could very well have been 'mis-remembered' as a 2.2 instead of a 2.0.

Does the VIN tell anything else? I know you can tell quite a bit from the post-1981 federalized VINs but I don't know about the earlier ones.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah, Happy New Years, (etc.)!

Bump.

Still looking for the this VIN. Not necessarily to buy (maybe) but just to know if anyone's seen it.

Take care, all!

PCA - I guess advertise in Panorama? Or on their website?

Do you have a link to the Early S forum?

Appreciate it, thanks!

Take care,

Yeah come on over and join us.

Early 911S Registry

BTW, I checked the registry and the VIN you are looking for is unfortunately not on the list.

Thanks for checking, I appreciate it. Is there a cost to join the forum?

Thanks again.

If anyone out there has a LWB coupe sitting as a parts car, or knows of one in a yard, I would really appreciate it if you could pop in at your leisure and look at the VIN.

Really trying to find the car. Whether its a not-for-sale-museum-car or a rusty shell I'd like to know where it is.

Thanks.

Take care!

Bump. Probably going to post a wanted ad in Panorama Magazine.

If anyone has or knows of a 1969 coupe I would so much appreciate it if you could see if the VIN matches.

I really appreciate your time reading this thread. Thank you!

Take care!

Bump. Ad should be in Panorama Magazine soon.

This car has a lot of sentimental value. Was driven all over the country (really was).

Again, if its a museum gem or all that's left is a rusty VIN plate, I'm interested in it's location.

If you know of or own the car please post or PM me.

If I can't find it, I would consider rebuilding it from a '69 chassis. Or perhaps a fully galvanized '77+ chassis, and backdating it to 1969 spec.

However, I do so much want to find it! However, I am thankful that we have kept the grille badge that came with the car.

Is it a reasonable idea to call each states DMV and ask if the VIN is in the system?

Thanks so much!

Take care!

See if Jersey will tell you if it ever got a transfer to another state......then go to that state.

Most DMVs are pretty cagey on giving out information. The local PCA and the ad in PAno would be your best bet.

I dont know if this will help but last time i listed a car on ebay upon entering the vin it showed the history of it registered for years past . Might have been carfax I dont know. But If the vin has been in the system somewhere recently there should be a way to find it. good luck..

I think that is CarFax. Unfortunately, CarFax and other bases don't keep good records for pre-1981 cars, when the VIN system was federalized. CarFax keeps no records for such cars.

Buff your car with a pine cone eh? Have to try that sometime! I think maybe you should switch and polish with the pine cone, but buff with the brick. Hm, maybe not. Have to ask some of the paint experts on here.

Thanks. I think this car would be on at least its third owner. Cool though!

Was in a shop the other day and way in the back was a red early 911, SWB though I think. Had Fuchs on it, Sugar Scoops and some rust. Don't know what model. No badge on the back. Couldn't really get a good look of the side because of its position, I identified it as a SWB by the different brakelights they had - right?

Take care!
