993 GT2 Tail on Widebody Cab???

G'Day all,

Has anyone on this board fitted a 993 GT2 tail on a widebody cab? I'm seriously thinking of replacing my factory turbo tail (which is damn heavy) with this carbon fibre unit and would like to see how it looks on a cab

Apart from just aesthetics, this will also serve a purpose. I notice my intercooler efficiency drops during top-down driving, obviously due to the changed aerodynamics of the car with the top down.

Hopefully, the GT2 tail with side air vents will channel air onto the IC core for improved cooling when I have the top down

This is the tail I'm talking about.

I'm also looking at a BW Design rear bumper with horizontal slits to more effectively extract hot air out from beneath the engine where the turbocharger sits.

Any pics of this combination on a widebody cab would be much appreciated

Thanks Juan

Even if it's not a cab, at least I can see how it looks in proportion to the rest of the widebody.

I like the look of it (be better in black tho)

Now, just for a pic of a cab to be 100% sure

Additionally, can one retain the third "ET-style" brake light using this tail

Hmmm, looks kinda "chunky" with the top down, especially without the top folded down at the rear, under the hood boot.

What do you guys think?

I agree. I only think it looks right on a coupe. However the one on Thom's car does look taller for some reason. Especially in the back section where the turbo script is on the coupe above. Maybe this is the cause of the exaggerated look?

They look like two different tails (930 above and Thoms).

Can anyone identify the tail on the 930 above? What model designation is that?

Merv,

The best wing I have ever seen on a wide body cab is without doubt the one used on the C2 turbo s/flatnose. I saw it the other day on a black widebody cab, really good looking in my opinion, not large by any stretch of the imagination! Its lighter than the 930 wing.

Definitely updates the look of the car and would complement the 993 mirrors. It is not as purposeful as the GT2 wing but I would think the GT2 is not the best wing for the car, in looks.

If anyone can post a pic of the wing I am talking about it would be great. I'll see if I can find a good example of what I am talking about.

Anthony.

I don't know what tail is on the 930, but it's a bolt-on tail, whereas mine is one piece (hah - one piece of tail! - to go please!)

With the cab top down, you get the 'shopping cart' effect.

Ahhhhhhh! That's the key Thom! Thanks for clarifying

U're right, the 930 has a bolt-on tail, not a one-piece tail and decklid combo. "Tail and Deck-lid combo to go please! Oh, and upsize that "

Anthony, you are referring to the "Turbo S" wing, which was on the C2 Turbo S. It doesn't have a rubber edge, like the 930 unit, which makes it lighter as it's one-piece. It's painted the same color as the body.

I do like the Turbo S tail, however, it doesn't address my problem. I require extra airflow onto the IC core when the top is down, thus, the reason for me considering the GT2 tail with side air ducts. I can then channel air directly onto the IC core and maintain intercooling efficiency.

The bolt-on tail on that C2T above looks somewhat smaller than Thoms and might suit my application.

If not, then I guess I'll look into an automated water spray controller for my Intercooler

BTW, the rear bumper I want is similar to the Red C2T above, however, it also has two horizontal slits just above both exhaust tips

(EDIT: OOOPS! Sorry Anthony! I read your post as "turbos", not Turbo S. My apologies!)

Here's the "Turbo S" tail Anthony refers to:-

Nice tail, but I need the side AIR DUCTS

I believe the primered ones I posted above bolt onto your existing decklid. That might be the one the C2T has on it. The horizontal section where the tail fastens to the decklid is shorter than Thoms

Nah, too complex Juan. Air-Air is better IMO.

The only water pump I want in my car is the windscreen washer pump and *maybe* an intercooler water-spray nozzle The problem with that, is what happens when you run out of water? IC efficiency drops down again

My widebody SC coupe has a bolt-on GT2 tail. They are shorter than the single unit that Thom was using. You will need to modify either unit if you want the air to go to the intercooler. I had air ducts running to the air cleaner housing when the 3.0L was in the car. The present intercooler is so tall that it sits withing 1/2 inch of the air grill. There is no room to duct air to the intercooler. Your intercooler is even larger so you would need to determine the airflow at speed to effectively duct the air. It may not be possible.

Thanks for the feedback RarlyL8.

Can you post some close up shots of your GT2 tail on your 930 SC I just want to see profiles etc.

You may be right about ducting extra air onto the IC core via the side ducts! BUGGA! *SIGH* , *SPEW*
