Latest and greatest in batteries?
So my Miata battery died in the 911 and it is time to replace. I have it installed in the WEVO battery box so it fits well - but my guess is there are lighter variants. I still want the battery to fit the box without too many modifications, no crazy side terminal stuff.
Anyone replace with a similar variant? Or is just best to get another Miata battery - this one lasted 11 years... ![]() Thanks -

The alternative chemistry stuff is lighter, but they scare me when coupled with the notoriously flaky 911 voltage regulator. I'm assuming you had something like this that drops right in and worked for 11 years? I wouldn't mess with that kind of success myself.

Yep that's it - hard to argue with $88 and 11 years...
Just didn't know since all that time if there is something lighter and same reliability but I guess you have to go alternative chemicals as you stated...

Yeah the lithium ion stuff is <5lb these days, pretty crazy, the OE sized one I pulled out of my car was almost 50lb.

P-Dawger,
What year car do you have? Sorry for the bone-head question but I have a 74 911 and my battery just retired so I need to buy a new one..... I came across this thread and I like the idea of the Miata Battery for 88.00.......................... will this fit/work in my car? Pre-H20 |

Auto zone 90 bucks in both my cars 7-8 years each battery tender in the winter. A lead acid battery is a lead acid battery. With a few exceptions they're the same.

recommended. Yes, they are a little pricier but well worth it. Most mfgrs now offer an AGM as an upgrade to their standard lead acid batteries.

Gotta be careful with the new batteries. Small and lightweight a plus. The real world negative is accidentally leaving light on for a day or so and you might have trouble reviving it.

1986 Coupe- Huge fan of the Bosch AGM S6585B. Fits perfectly in the second (short battery length) screw hole and has the added safety benefit of Absorbed Glass Mat.
