I very strongly suggest Powertech in Rockaway, NJ. They are not far off route 80, just west of where route 287 crosses rt. 80.
PowerTech They brought my '87 to euro ride height (actually slightly below, at my request) and installed the bump steer kit. What a difference from the stock US ride height - it now handles as it is supposed to! They also did the corner balancing and reviewed the data sheets with me. Mike & the guys are my go-to shop for stuff I can't do myself. Last edited by dw1; 04-17-2014 at 09:00 AM.. |

If your located in central NJ, Provost Motorsports. I've been taking my '87 there for 3 years and have been very happy.

I lowered it myself and then brought it to powertech for new tires and an alignment. They did exactly as I asked and I am very happy with the work done.

Make some calls, I believe euro tire is the best deal around alignment, ride height adjustment amend corner balance, I think will cost you $350

reviving- ~COST?? to lower 911 to euro spec and do aligment?
I have been hearing ridiculous prices for lowering the suspension to Euro spec. Just want to lower 1 - 1.5' for aesthetic reasons only. What have you all paid for this.
This is a 79 Sunday car...not a track car, not a canyon runner..talking basic torsion bars in and out....and resetting camber and toe. I can have the ability to do the work myself.....but some things are worth paying for...up to a point. the above mentioned $350 at Eurotire is so much lower that quotes I have heard that I can cant seem to take that seriously. thanks.. |

This work on a 911 is not like other cars. There is nothing basic about torsion bars in and out on the rears. I actually think the $350 is very fair at euro tire and wonder at that price if they are just going to adjust the rear plates as far down as possible (maybe half inch lower- probably less) instead of pulling the plates off and re-indexing the bars
That said I did this stuff myself including alignment so cannot comment any further on what this costs at normal retail.

So when I read here on the forum that Carreras ('84-'89) sold in the US were the same ride height as their ROW counterparts, is that inaccurate?

At $350 they're not reindexing the T bars. They're just dropping it as far as the plates allow. Its not going to be an inch and a half.

Any one want to share cost?
I am going to do this myself...but curious what others have paid. Is 1000 in the ball park for a street car?

Quote:
the ride height not lower it. The eccentric adjusters are set in the LOWEST position from the factory and ONLY move the body height higher! In '74 when the impact bumper cars appeared and the Fed specified bumper heights, Porsche sent them from the factory at specified height, then later when the adjustable spring plates appeared they set them so you could ONLY RAISE the car with spring plate adjustments. Ergo, if you want to lower, you'll need a torsion bar reindex! If a reindex of the torsion bars is done to lower your car, it is a good idea to set the spring plate eccentrics to the center position to allow minor adjustments up or down for height and corner balance. I agree, at $350 you'll probably not get a reindex of the torsion bars!
