Yet another buying question
Has anyone ever bought an ex-race 911?
There is a series here in the UK called the Porsche Classic in which 911s (and the odd 924GT etc) race in pretty much street spec mechanically but are lightened by stripping out the interiors. I have come accross a Carrera 3.0 that was raced in the Porsche Classic a couple of years ago but has been off the road for 18 months. It is road-legal but is in race trim ie no interior, one race seat etc (although it has heating!) The current owner is now racing an SC and after afew possible buyers pulled out has not recently been advertising it. It has been looked after by one of the top Porsche race specialists in the UK, JZ Machtec, and they gave it a "top end rebuild" and gearbox rebuild after the driver missed a shift. My question is, assuming the mechanicals all check out, which knowing JZ Machtec is likely, how do you feel about a car that has been raced. Obviously it will have had a hard life but should have been well looked after etc. With regards to the interior, I would put some interior back in, e,g, passenger seat but I am looking for a weekend/track car so don't mind non-originality or "minimalism". Would you run a mile? Cheers James |

If it checks out good, and you like it, buy it!
Better to buy one that has been raced and properly maintained, than one that has been neglected IMHO. |

Anyone else any views on owning an ex-race car or is it not an issue?
