Newbie intro thread
hey gang. i'm a newbie here and i thought i'd introduce myself and my car SmileWavy
THE CAR- a 1970 911T targa. some crazy person put a fibreglass turbo body kit (not very well may i add) and painted it metallic booger green. its a wee bit rusty but everything can be fixed. currently a 2.4L with a 915 but my dad is keeping those so today i bought a 914-6 2.0L and a 901 trans. the ultimate plan is to return it to stock body and original Signal Orange. luckily i know a half decent bodyman  it came with BBS wheels in silver but looks better with fake fuchs. ME - i'm the 16 year-old daughter of my dad named Don, known here as Haycait911. this is my first car. here's the work in progress thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/838121-1970-911t-targa-resurrection.html#post8410624 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415424230.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415424261.jpg dig the starship enterprise command console 1977 recaros. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415424358.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415424517.jpg |
Welcome to the dark side.
Love the color and really dig the seats (NOT). Should be a fun project. You are one lucky 16 year old. I had a bike (pedal) :) |
oh yes................you need help, but luckily, it's close by.
regards, al don.........help her, please help her! |
That's the new Ogopogo Reconnaissance Vehicle.
|
Congrats and good luck. It will be fun!

Welcome aboard. You really know a project when you see one. My friend Al is good with a (body) hammer, just ask his thumb. Keep us posted. Always great to see women taking up the passion.
|
Awesome, welcome!
|
The "metallic booger green" looks like an actual Porsche color, and it's a nice one. That said, period correct is always better, and the signal colors are gorgeous. Good luck with the project!
|
Congratulations and welcome.
My 74 is signal orange but I like the color of your car. Best of luck. Matt |
Good luck and welcome, but I can't say I am a fan of the fully blacked out fake Fuchs in the last photo. I prefer the first set of wheels you show. But its your car, have fun and post lots of pix to this thread!!
|
thanks for all the great welcomes.
i'll get some more pictures today. the color is okay but original is always better and signal orange is a sick color. looks like my dad sold the fuchs so the BBS are back until the flares are gone. |
i took a few more pics today.
the 2.4 my dad is keeping  http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415497851.jpg the 914/6 2.0 that i bought with my summer job money :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415497915.jpg another shot of the 1977-ish interior and the starship enterprise command console seats  http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415498073.jpg mint old Blaupunkt speakers  http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415498163.jpg |
That's cool - welcome and have fun. Good for you buying the engine, and good luck with the project.
|
I see a change already.
New shifter knob? Matt |
Quote:
yup. my dad 'loaned' me a proper shift knob. |
Nice one kid-of-haycait911! That's going to be a cool ride when it's done...not that sea-foam green isn't cool already:p
|
Welcome to the forum.
Seeing some of the cars that have rolled out of your dad's shop, I bet this Targa will be looking fine in no time... Ask your dad if you can keep the engine and the sports seats that came in the 912! ;) |
We're glad you are here. . .
You will receive many opinions on everything, a lot of them very subjective, so I might as well add mine. If your dad has "kept" (stolen) the original engine and transmission, then you have some considerable mechanical work to do. I'd start with that and worry about the body modifications much later. A running car would be first on my list, before getting the color right. Best of luck. |
I think I've just been insulted, on more than one level.

Welcome and have fun with your new ride. |
My dad has poisoned my mind against targas. I wouldn't mind the flares so much if they were well done. Also my ultimate plan is to sell it to pay for university. and I'm learning that stock body and stock color will be the most desirable, and you can't go wrong with signal orange.
as far as the motor. my dad said that I'd have a running car come spring no matter what. it's just that he thinks the 2.4 is a bit too much power for me. it may be better to learn to drive a 911 with a little less scoot. |
This is going to be fun...best part is when your Dad is at the office you can rummage through his parts bins for the good stuff :D
I have some slightly better seats for you, even though those are kinda cool in their own hideous way. Have fun |

What kind of Dad take a decent motor from his daughter??? :-)
I have 5 daughters and only one of them is a motor head. She's building a backdated 76 with a 3.4 twin plug motor. I would never steal her 3.4 motor!! She's building it and it will be her's forever. This is the starting point for the body http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps09943556.jpg Measuring valve stems http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psfac701f0.jpg Checking the bores http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psd02ea7e7.jpg CCing the heads for compression ratio setting. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps8a6cfc61.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psf4ccf073.jpg You should get with her offline to discuss projects!! She's driving a 944 right now. PM me if you want her email address. No marriage proposals please from any of you other stalkers out there. |
thats pretty cool to see another girl working on these cars http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif
my dad might keep an engine but at least he heats the shop :D judging by your daughters hoodies and scarves. you, maybe not so much ;) ( my dad made me post that last bit  ) |
HasslichTagrga, stop, wait. I've just had a really good idea. I'm surprised someone didn't think of this earlier. How about you do up the car, keep the car, and your dad pay for uni.
|
My daughter had a car with 275hp when she was 16. But she did learn to drive our 930 when she was 13. That engine needs to go with that car.

Allie is one of those gals that is warm blooded so always cold when in the shop. I'm a cheep a$$ Yankee and keep the shop on the cool side. She was working in the basement shop when I took that pic.
We have a good, complete 2.7 if your dad feels the need to get an engine for you to replace the one he absconded with. |
Congrats Caitlyn. Good luck with the project. Should be a blast..............
|
Good luck with the project. I wish a 911 was my first car :)

and btw Charlie, this is Dons younger daughter Hayley. Caitlyn is happy to pose next to them but she isn't as into the dirty work |
Glad to be able to jump in here ...and beat your dad up : )
Tell him he can have the 2.4 if he agrees to source you a close 2.2 that would be correct for the car. You can build up a great 2.2 if you use a 2.4 crank, (he has several of those lying around)...which will be better torque and more hp than the 2.4 he is stealing from you. He told me he actually liked the disco recaros seats, so you should sell those to him (for big bucks) and replace them with some period correct sport S repros. Welcome to the board, and if your dad gives you crap, let us know and we will deal with him....we have dirt.

weather down here...

If Canada doesn't like what weather it has, it should send it north where they don't know any better and/or don't care. If you guys send one more "polar vortex" down this way...we're sending troops. And they will hit you where it hurts the most. You know what I'm talking about. They will cut you of from your most important national assets. What will you do when we have taken all of your bacon and beer...eh hoser? Speedo |

Looks like you are moving forward with the project and having fun with it. |

Welcome!
I'd like to commend you on your already-well-refined sense of humor and sarcasm. Most of us need years of Porsche ownership and communication with other Porschephiles to reach the level you're operating at... Good luck with the project. |
