I finally passed SMOG with Jim's help. He came up from the South Bay twice over a couple of weekends to help me diagnose my car because it was failing SMOG spectacularly. New O2 sensor, plugs rotor and cap and adjusting the idle and air:fuel mixture, plus a few other tricks.
I still owe him a very nice lunch sometime in the near future. Before ![]() After ![]()

WhooHoo! Congrats Hugh! and a special thanks to W.
![]() Enjoy! Come visit me and we'll take care of the front bearings ![]() Evan, you need a LM1 or LM2 or like product to do it properly, Find a someone that has it and it is pretty straight forward process short of a pro-wrench doing it for you.

Once again, DRACO is the guy. He came up and helped my adjust my front wheel bearings today. Last time he was here, I'd mentioned that last year I'd replaced my front wheel bearings and rotors and pads. He pushed on the tires and then informed me that they were a little (OK, a lot) loose. He brought the small and large torque wrenches and everything we needed. Also my tire pressure was off by a few pounds. He showed me a few tricks and even pointed out that my Fuch wheel centers were not corrected aligned with the bottom point of the Porsche logo pointing at the valve stems (apparently a major Concours faux pas). We drove it up the I-5 and then through a few slight twisties. With the AFM adjusted corrected, the new plugs, rotor, and cap, this thing is the tits. I doubt its run this well since a ham-fisted mechanic (ME) started working on it ten years ago.
I bought him a nice brunch at the local Hyatt, (walk in, no waiting). We discussed life/careers and cars at the buffet. For the price of the buffet, I owe Jim a lunch at a Dim Sum place he likes in Glendale, CA as well). After that, he and I pulled the Targa top and he gave me some valuable advise on fixing the wind noise (call Dan in NJ and get the correct front gasket for the leading edge of the Targa top).
