Shift linkage cover resto-mod

Got a little bored last night and decided to try a new look for the shift linkage cover. I ended up with two. One I plane to paint and clear the GP white of the body. This one I decided to cover with the marine grade black vinyl I used to repair a pillar during my interior repair and refurb.

Very quick project. It started with a solid cover with some surface rust. Rather than having it media blasted, I opted for some rust neutralizer/primer. After it dried I, used the 3M interior adhesive from my RS carpet install to put a good coat on the bottom of the material and the top of the cover. I let it get a really good tack to it before joining the two. This photos don't show it, but I also cut out a few cardboard pieces in the shapes of the mounting hardware holes. I then placed them in the recess and clamped them to adhere to the inset.

After some work emails I went back and cut the shape and darts to wrap the edges, good coat of 3M and a while to tack-up. After it was ready to wrap, I did all sides sand then the corners. using the small clips from my headliner install, I clipped it all about the flange. Note here that if you don't use some scraps or folded strips of thick paper (as I did with the pillar) the clips will leave indentations in the material. Because the edge is going into the tunnel recess with plush carpet, I did not take this step.

The last step for me was to use some of the self-adhering aluminum and dense foam duct insulation I used under the carpet (Lowes, $19 roll if I remember right) for sound deadening. I placed it on the underside of the cover and trimmed to fit while it was adhered. Below are some of the pics, Ill post installed pics when I get to it...
