High Oil Pressure reading

Sorry for this newbie dumb question. Let's just start off with "I am a worrier".

I have about 30 miles on the car since engine drop. Only running has been on cold days, around 35F-45F outside air temp.

Oil fill is dino 20W-50.

Upon start up, cold engine, the oil pressure gage sitting at 60psi and jumps to 140 psi if the accelerator is blipped. On a 20 mile drive, the oil temp settled at 180F and the pressure hung around 10-20 psi at idle, 60 psi on accel, and I didn't notice it pinging the 140psi mark.

Pressure level seems high. I have 11 qts in and still wasn't getting and oil on the dip stick when checking with engine idling. Engine was empty of oil from the drop. Gonna add more oil today.

So, here is the worrier part: '76 2.7L. Just upgraded to SSIs, so installed the proper Engine Block Oil Pressure Line Cross Over Pipe. What if I forgot to remove a plastic plug on one end of the oil pipe, kind of like the surgeon leaving a sponge in the patient before sewing him up?????

Seems like I'd have other warnings. But I am a worrier and the pressure doesn't seem right. I usually read 10psi / 1000 rpm.

Tap on the Sender it may be getting tired or the connector is loose or corroded.

So you don't think I would be able to drive as much as I have if the engine was being starved oil?

I had crazy readings once and ordered a new sender. I was about ready to install then I tapped on the sender and the readings cleared up. I will still change it but I think you are okay.

My understanding, I could be wrong, is if the DRUCK pressure drops, then it would be a concern as you say oil starvation, Not Good which would result in a catastrophic failure

After warm the readings should closely match the RPMs not exact but relatively close

Maybe you ay need to consider thinner weight oil since you are in the colder weather???

The tab connection to the pressure sender was loose. Tightened it up and now warm engine idle is about 20psi, and it peaks at 60 psi on accel. Guess I am ok. Now......why do I have so much valve train noise following a valve adjust?

A lot of folks end up with valves adjusted on the loose side as they are learning to make the adjustment. May or may not be the case with your situation.

20 and 60 are about what I see with 15/50 in my 3.2 Carrera and I do have the oil line restrictors in place. -J
