Battery light

Just started my 86 911, noticed the batt. light stayed on, sometimes i have to rev to above idle to get it to kick off but this time did not. So checked to see how bright headlights are, no headlights. Everything else working fine. Any suggestions?

Put a meter on the battery terminals. Should be 13 ish not running, 13.5 running and 14 volts at 2500 rpms.

If not your alternator is going. As to the lights not working that could be a separate issue like fuses.

Call AAA to diagnos or take the battery to a FLAPS to check the condition of the battery.

Have you done any work that required neg side to be removed? check that too.

Were you having other weird symptoms? Like the tach swinging back and forth, radio getting loud.......you could have had a voltage spike from a bad regulator.

+1, that could have caused the bulbs to blow, liken to a current surge

None of the above, just checked the voltage at the battery, 12.8(not running), then started the car, dropped to 12.2

You likely have a problem with your regulator or alternator itself.
