Forgot to swap over starter ring gear.

Just tell me I'm not the only one so I don't feel so dumb.

Put my motor back in today, turned the key, whrrrr.

See old pressure plate with starter ring still attached on the garage floor.

Good thing the car is so easy / fun to work on.

+1, we all have.

Even my trusted Wrench, he forgot to connect my vacuum to my cruise control, :-)

Working on my car is therapy

Hope this helps Matt,
I did the same thing on my racecar when I built it many years ago!

Unhappy

I worked as a Technician in a Porsche dealer many years ago.
I have to admit .... More than once.

I'll never forget helping my buddy in high school put the 396 and 3 speed back into his Chevelle. After initial run-in and that first oil drain he fired it up, pushed in the clutch, and we all heard the tremendous racket as the clutch fork contacted the clutch disk. Sitting right there in the passenger seat was the throw-out bearing still in its box...

Make sure the ring gear is seated on pressure plate. Onetime I just torqued the ring gear and apparently it was not seated all the way and broke off teeth upon starting. I heated the ring gear and tapped all around to seat it. You don't want to do this again.

And yes a friend of mine a Factory trained mech did forget the ring gear onetime

I didn't install the TO bearing correctly, pushed the clutch in a few times, pop, right to the floor. Ugh.

We all learn from experiences, sorry to hear that this will be an extended lesson.
It will be easier going back in the second time.

Yep...I did that.... I also removed the starter and bench tested it, etc., before finally figuring out what was wrong...
