Fuel pump on its way out? Have you tested the pressure in the line coming up?

Steve... you're probably looking for a quick answer... which unfortunately I don't have for you. What I do have, and much credit to Tim for putting a universe of CIS fuel injection info together for '78 - '83 911's, you can start looking at his thread to get a handle on your challenge...

I also think fuel pump. It could be lack of power getting to it. This was what happened to my SC. It turned out to be a loose wire in the fuse box.

Make sure your oil fill cap is on firmly.

..kay heres the thing ....

when i disconnect my fuel relay during oil changes . i always turn over the engine with the starter to pump the oil pressure without ignition .

The car NEVER starts for 2 seconds then dies. it barely even fires and the fuel pump isnt running .

lets face it even the cold start injector needs fuel pressure to work ... just food for tought ..

You have a switch in the fuel metering unit. It uses a plastic sleeve to isolate itself from the bolt that retains it.

If the insulation wears to allow the screw to make contact with the housing, it shuts the fuel pump off when you release the key.

your going to need a CIS fuel pressure gauge set to tie into the fuel lines at the Warm up regulator (this would be the easiest place to get to). The fuel pump and accumulator should be providing about 5 bar (70 PSI) There are a multitude of threads on checking the pressures and it seems that harbor freight sells a pressure set with a multitude of adaptors. You will need to remove your red fuel pump relay and jumper between terminal 30 and I believe 87A. This will activate the pump with ignition on.

The alarm system is also tied into the fuel pump. My alarm died - I removed the alarm box behind the HVAC blower (under the wiper motor) and added the jumper wire in the female connector. Cured my problem.

Just thinking, the engine wouldn't start period when I had the problem.

Good luck.
