Missing bumper shock stud

I took my bumper off to replace the smile on my 82 SC. I found the driver side bumper shock had one of the studs missing. Can the stud be replaced?

Remove the shock tube by removing the two bolts on the U-clamp and the one large nut on the aft end. Put a bolt of same length and thread into the hole, Weld the bolt's head to the plate. Reinstall.

I suppose you could do this work with the item still on the car. But if you have to take the shock strut to a welder, its better to remove it first ...
