911 engine test stand
Does anyone build or sell a portable test stand that can be set up with cooler, starter, fuel, guages, etc. And adapt to a normal 911 sport mount with tranny support.
Looking for a perfect t set up to do cam run ins and chase leaks and some basic tuning functions. I was thinking some of the specialty or race shops might have plans and fabricate to order. Thanks John

Yes. I've seen a couple. An internet search will turn up a few sources. Let us know what you find.

Nothing that is specific to a 911 that I can find. I see some generic big block water radiator set ups that could be adapted with some welding, bar, and fabrication. Switch out the radiator for an oil tank set up. Would be nice to have something on rollers so you could hoist over and down and have the machines do all the work. I would like a little pre wired dash with oil pressure and temp, gen light and volts. AFR broad band etc.

I believe our host sells a jig to emulate the gearbox housing geometry to mount a starter on a long block. The manufacturer of that item produces a test stand for 911 engines.
Did you know Google Search is your friend? porsche engine test stand - Google Search and Yahoo: https://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0SO8z2Wg4ZU0zEAMIRXNyoA?p=Porsche+eng ine+test+stand&fr=yfp-t-102&fr2=piv-web Tried it with Bing too: Porsche engine test stand - Bing Images If you preface any of the above searches with the word "Pelican", you'll have good results from Pelican's archives. Evidently, the coding provided with vBulletin isn't as robust as the above multi-million dollar search engines. Sherwood |

This was my inspiration. Pretty basic though.

Old engine test stand.......
This is the old engine test stand that I use for testing engines before putting them back in the car. A new one is under construction and 915 bell housing differential from Gary Fairbanks of CT arrived yesterday. It makes the work very convenient with an engine test stand specially after a total engine rebuild.
![]() This is not as nice as Pat's engine stand but has been used for more than a dozen engine rebuild start-ups and counting. So by new year, I might have a better looking one if I learn to do a better welding job. Tony |

I stole the idea from Tony...
![]() You can build one fairly easily if you don't want to spend the money for a generic. I believe any Porsche engine (air cooled, anyway) will bolt up to any VW trans. Mine uses an old 901 I had lying around.

here's mine
Here's my engine test stand. it shows up in a couple of the searches that Sherwood posted. This is a V8 test stand that I bought at Costco, for a few hundred bucks many years ago. Using a 915 bell housing, I adapted it for 911 engine testing.
![]() it's come in handy a few times............................................. . https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=koz77911

This works for me. The housing is shortened, so how are you mounting that end. Do you have a clearer picture of the actual mounting points?
Thanks John
