Removing front seats
My drivers seat has a little play and I would like to adjust the screws. However I do not have a clue on how to remove the seat in order to gain acces to the rails.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

To remove the seat slide it all the way to the rear and remove the two front bolts, then slide it as far forward as you can and remove the two rear bolts. The back ones are a bit of a pain but can be done with a simple allen wrench. Buena suerte.SmileWavy |
Hi,
If you look under the seat on the rails, there will be four allen bolts on the four corners of each.. its a bit of a tighy fit but if you remove all four of them on each seat. Your seats will pull right out. I hope that helps ya out. Cheers, Eric SmileWavy |
I'd suggest using good Allen wrenches. The first time I removed mine the cheapies I used started to strip so I got a really good set. There are also little blocks that the bolts thread into and it's best to keep a finger on them when the bolt gets loosened.

All good points... remember that there is one bolt for the front...and typically 2 bolts on the back...of EACH seat rail on either side. Typically 6 bolts total. Yep...make absolutely sure you have a good quality, tight fit of the recessed socket hex allen tool . --Wil Ferch |
On my SC there's only 4 bolts, 2 in front and two in back. I think the later models had the 6 bolts, is that right?

My SC doesn't have allen bolts - just regular 10mm bolts, two at the front, two at back. Seat pops out in about 5 minutes.

Are you the original owner? Sounds like the allen bolts were destroyed/stripped/frozen when removed and later replaced with the 10mm bolts. I've heard that some folks resort to a cold chisle and hammer to get those suckers out.

I also have 10 mm machine screws on my seats. As the are silver and most of the other hardware in the interior is black, one can only assume that these are not original. However much easier to R&R the seats, not having to worry about the hexheads stripping

Yeah, in my opinion, they make the seat much easier to remove and replace. And no, I am not the original owner - they were undoubtedly changed sometime in the car's 20+ year life. Unless they used different bolts in the Euro cars?

As follow-up to my point made earlier.... 1.) Yep, my car is a 1985 , 3.2 Carrera..so the SC's may have been different, using 4 bolts to my 6. 2.) I'm quite certain that my bolts were original, by the force it took to get them out, to the paint marks on them indicating correct torque/angle/whatever. Bolts are gold cad plated, I believe 6mm (?)...in size. ---Wil Ferch |
I'd like to bring this thread back to life to see if I can get some fresh information. I can confirm that the SC only has 4 bolts. I believe mine are 10mm like others who posted. I suspect they may not be original hardware and would like to get bolts that require an allen wrench because they would be so much easier to remove and put back in. Can anyone supply the proper part number? I have the part number for the 993, which is 900.119.030.02, but I don't know if they are the right size.

Will, why not just go to your local hardware store and get metric socket bolts?

I want to make sure that whatever I get is has an appropriate shear rating. I'd like to maintain some safety. I figure if I get the Porsche part then I will get what is safe. |
Not to worry...if you buy from a reputable industrial supply house, look for grade 8.8 on the head stamp....equivalent to US Grade 5.

The seat mounting stuff seemed to change a bit from the SC to the Carrera.
The SC and the 84 Carreras use 4 M6 bolts per seat and the 85 and later Carreras use 6 M8 bolts per seat. The length on the bolts for the Carrera seats (any Carrera) depends on whether or not the seat is power or manual. The manual seats have spacers beneath the seat rail and need longer bolts. The short bolts are M8x20 (900.119.030.02) and the long bolts are M8x35 (900.119.081.02) It looks like the SCs do not use a threaded plate beneath the mounting channels on the floor of the car? I assume the SC channels have a threaded boss or nut welded beneath the mounting channel. The Carreras use a threaded plate/big square nut underneath the mounting channels. I know the SC uses regular hex head bolts, not sure about the 84 Carrera though. The 85 and later Carreras use allen/inhex/cheese head bolts. All of the bolts are low-head bolts to let the seat rail slide full range. Pretty sure the property class is 8.8 You can get low head bolts from EagleDay Inc. Low head M6 bolts are the third item on the list at the following page: Eagle Day Inhex Bolts The guy to whom I sold my original 87 seats (I switched to 93 RS America sport seats) put them in an SC. They bolted right in. His SC obviously uses the low head 10mm hex head M6 bolts. To get his out we needed a thin wall 10mm socket. My Craftsman 1/4" 10mm socket was too thick |
My 87 seat rail has M8 1.25(pitch), 2.00(2CM) length. Last person removing the seat has stripped all the bolts. Make sure you get a good allen wrench. Just slide seat all the way to the front and all the way to the back, you will see the bolts.

I’m removing the front passenger seat of my ‘78 930 to install a fire extinguisher mount purchased from our host. I can confirm 4 M6 mounting bolts which I believe are original. The front two are easy to remove with a 1/4” drive 10mm socket, and the rears are much easier if left for last, as the seat will slide about 1” farther forward after the front bolts are removed. Install is reverse order of course.
