My 73 rsr inspired build thread (finally)

Hey guys ,
now I've finally started this project I thought I'd share it here .
Progress will be slow as it's a long-term project , but expect an update at least ne every 2 years

It's basically a 73 that ended up as a race car .
I bought it from don at Aircooled classics in Knoxville once it was retired from racing .
My plan is to build an rsr-esq hot rod road/track-car this is heavily influenced by its racing past .
Think of ear-plugs , bad backs , and regular dental appointments ....

Here is some info from when don had it for sale .
911 Turbo Race Car

And here are a few pictures of it .

Last week I did a blue-tape mock-up

The fibreglass rear arches are going onto a buddies sc track-car

Here is the finished mock-up with steel rear flares .
I'm going for an all-steel tub with fibreglass bolt-ons .
I'm still deciding what to do with the doors .
R-style fibreglass with lexan on straps , or rs style with door cards and winders .

And upto now gulf colors is the latest paint scheme , so we got a feeling of how it will look with the interior painted the same .

Today , a fibreglass arch came off and my buddy took it to trial fit on his sc .
If it will work I have to clear my garage in preparation for us removing the other arch next week .

I'm relatively local to you , in Laguna hills .
So anytime you wanna come by and drink corona whilst looking at it , your welcome .
(This is what I gave been doing the last couple of years rather than working on it )

It was supposed to be stripped and ecoated , then back to me with the underside painted ready to make it a "roller" by now .
But I'm still drinking corona and looking at it

Thanks !!

I've been eating to do either a 73 or 964 wide-track car for years .
After missing out on a couple of 964s this came up

The plan is to have a classic looking hot rod with a 964/993 powerplant and g50 and a few nice period parts . Nothing extreme like the checkbook guys , but just enough

The last couple of days have seen a flurry of activity !!!

Yesterday I removed a Sebring mirror and drilled the rivets off an aluminium doorcard .
I think I found an old wasps nest ?

And today I drilled out some rivets in the rear seat panel .
Only to find out it's welded underneath
I should have looked first , but that would mean getting on my knees in the layer of dust on the floor

I looked at this car a few years ago at Don's shop here in Knoxville. Below are the pictures I took (sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures)...

It's been a while .

I've still done nothing on the car

It's nowhere near getting painted in gulf colours , so in the meantime I put this together ...

So , another 2 years have passed ....

I’ve actually done something !!!

1 : didn’t upgrade my photobucket account .
2 : had Tyson round for a beer and talk about the project .
3 : sold the ducktail and suspension as we decided on a different plan .
4 : drunk a sh+t-load more beers in the garage looking at it .

I also kinda wrecked a 997 and a Boxster , just to keep the Aircooled guys happy

And .... erm ... that’s about it

Expect another update in 2019 .
