Cars and Coffee Irvine is dead, long live the new Cars/Coffee

From the man himself
Sorry I did not respond to your note last week. I’m sending this to be certain you know there will be no Cars & Coffee this weekend. Sadly, it’s reached the end due to severe overcrowding. If you think of others who should be notified of this, please pass the word.

Thanks, and have a great holiday!

And.... in with the new::

Let’s get some new pavement.

Since C&C was never an official event, unofficially, some enthusiasts would like to meet for coffee starting Saturday, December 27th from 7am-9am at the District in Tustin, CA. Below are maps of the location as well as exactly where we plan to park.

We’d like to start small to ensure our welcome and keep the group to like-minded enthusiasts, so we ask that everyone be cautious in forwarding this invitation only to friends that you know will share our values. We’ll grow over time, and starting small will serve us best.

We do request that you respect the property and patronize the many great coffee and breakfast establishments at the District. If we are kind and polite to our hosts, nothing has to change and the tradition can continue.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact myself, Richard Schnyder, or Lori Ruben. Lori is a long time car enthusiast and has graciously offered her time to help. Richard is connected with many of the British car people and has also volunteered his time.

Lori Ruben: ljruben@gmail.com

Richard Schnyder: richards@hollywoodcenter.com

Paul Kramer: paul@autokennel.com

Cheers and see you all on Saturday, December 27th.

Happy Holidays,

Paul

It's a nice idea, but (and sorry to be a buzzkill!) that location will never work long term (or probably even short term). Way too tight, way too busy, way too small, and way too crowded.

On the upside, I'm sure a new location will be found, maybe the old El Toro base, etc.

I think it might be OK since the only store that would be open early would be Lowes. All the other retailers wouldn't be open until 9 and most C&C cars would be gone by then.

I am happy to say I attended one C&C with my son in Irvine while on vacation about five years ago. in Houston, we outgrew two venues, one centrally located and one on the northwest side. Both times the retailers were clogged out. I think the answer may be to find an unused parking lot at a sport venue and charge an admission.

Of course, the last Saturday of each month has the San Diego PCA descending on the Carlsbad Cars & Coffee at the Outlets off I-5, commencing about 7 or 7:30am. It ain't Irvine, but it is getting some legs, and there are plenty of Porsches on the PCA day.

I think most retailers will break out in hives, once their attorneys learn there are a few hundred cars on their property. Then, once the morons start to show off when exiting, that'll be a given.

I worry about Carlsbad that I mentioned above- there is a contingent of drivers of mostly 4 cyls or BMW's that insist on nailing it out of the lot. I noted the foolishness of this on their facebook page, and the replies showered upon me, showed how ignorant the masses are. One comment "to my knowledge, it's legal to accelerate to the speed limit, as fast as you can, provided you don't spin the tires".

One thing about Irvine, was the "exclusivity" of how they contained the lot. Too big, and it's hard to control. Smaller than what was at Irvine would be too small, IMO.

Of course the organizers at Cbad were more than happy to get about anything to show up when it started. But, as a "mall lot" with multiple entrances, you can't meter the input.

My last visit to Carlsbad C&C, I witnessed two young men in a WRX or Evo flying out of south entrance like they were in a rally race(trying to drift from parking lot exit to road). Could have ended really bad. For a sec I thought they were to crashed to on coming traffic or pedestrians.

This video could have ended very badly and was at the first Houston venue. I remember at Irvine at least the police were at the exit to cut down on the Darwinism.
