Early seat operation & removal (72)

Hi,

I'm tearing apart the interior of my, new to me, 72 Targa. I need to remove the passengers seat but can't seem to get to the allen bolts holding the rear rails.

I can get the seat to move front/back but it seems to stop short of revealing the rear bolts. What are the magic steps?

BTW, what does the button on the top of the seat hing and the arm/with know at the bottom of the hing. Car sat outside for some time with no targa top and these 2 mechanism barely move. I don't want to force anything and break them.

The flip handle at the top of the hinge is the seat back release to fold the seat back forward. The lower handle is to adjust the incline of the seat back. If they are stuck, don't force them, get the seat out and remove the hinges carefully and then lube heavily with a PB Blaster type product. Be careful when you are backing out the screws to remove the seat back from the hinge. There is an internal nut inside the seat back that strips real easy, try to get some lube in there if you can. You will need to get the seat to travel it's full range to get to all the allen bolts and be careful of stripping them out as well (soak heavily) Good luck with the project

Try sitting in the seat as to apply downward pressure, put your legs out the door unless you are short, getting out could be a squeeze.

In short, what I recall is that this is a two step process. First remove the Allens you can get to (the front ones?). That will allow you to slide the seat farther toward the removed bolt side, which will give access to the hard to get at ones. I think this is what s55 is getting at.

Thanks guys!

Got the seat removed. Took the front ones out and seat stop binding in the tracks.

I realize this thread is dated, but I'm having the same problem with the 'stop' in the sliders. What was the fix? Did you just drill it out? Did you replace it? Thanks.

Steve
