Hi,
I am trying to install a rear Weltmeister Sway Bar on my '73 911. I cannot figure out how to use the U Clamp, slider, and Trapeziod shaped block to connect the bar bushings to the banana arms. Can someone post or send me a picture of how these parts are installed. Currently I have the u-clamp and the slider put in so there is an "O" that goes around the banana arm. This does not seem to make sense since I cannot clamp the "O" to the banana arm. Thanks!

Unlike the factory bar, the welty bar doesn' t actually connect to the trailing arm (banana arm). It connects to the spring plate. It uses one of the adjuster bolts on the spring as a connection point.

The clamp goes around the torque tube. You slip the clamp sideways over the tube, right between the narrow gap between the tube aand the underbody.
Then you slip the other end of the clamps on and then the trapezoid. The mount will end up angling down and rearward at about a 45 deg. angle. You'll have to adjust them so that the swaybar fits nicely between the trans mount and doesn't hit anything. The clamps should be spaced out as far as they will go to the outsides of the torque tube.

tyson,
I am assuming that the Torque tube is the place where the torsion bars go, not the banana arms. See attached picture. Chuck, I got the ends of the bar attached to the sring plates via the weltmeister style camber adjuster nut. My problem is the bushing supports for the bar it self. My car did not have a sway bar, so no factory supports. ![]()

WM should hire me to write adequate (I didn't say good) installation instructions. Actually, one line drawing should do it. They assume everyone knows how to install their parts. I've seen the sway bar installed upside down.
The u-bolt clamps are for cars that don't have the welded chassis mounts to hold the sway bar in place. They should clamp around each end of the torsion bar tube (it runs across the width of the car in back as pictured). When installed correctly the sway bar should be parallel to the torque tube and directly under the transaxle mount bracket. Remove the u-bolts as the appear in the pic but leave the already attached drop links in place (I assume you removed the correct eccentric bolt and replaced it with the replacement WM eccentric/drop link mount). Swing the sway bar up toward the torsion bar and you'll see how the clamps attach the bar to the TB tube. A couple of extra jack stands will hold the sway bar in position while you trial fit the clamps. Hope this helps, Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Sherwood,
Thanks. I can't be so hard on Weltmeister as I bought the parts used with no instructions. It took me a while to get the ends installed as I accidentally stripped the threads on one of the Weltmeister Camber screws. Good thing my machine shop was able to make a new one from bar stock. If I do not get this job done soon, I'm thinking my wife will divorce me! I do have to say that it is a good thing there are places like Pelican and Rennlist where you can find someone who has been there, done that. Regards,

Well Harry, it looks like you figured out where the torque tube is and where to put the brackets.
One note: The aftermarket adapter brackets don't work well at all with the rear fuel pump location like yours. It interferes with getting the mount out to the far edge of the torque tube. The result is a very compromised swaybar effectiveness. The best thing to do is to weld in the factory swaybar consoles, and reinforce them. The factory console on the left side will fit between the fuel pump carrier and the left rocker. The adapter bracket won't fit there, and must be installed to the right of the fuel pump carrier. Not ideal. Good luck!

Thanks to all who helped in my install ordeal.
It's not hard, once you know what you are doing!! Tyson-The pump does interfere with the backet on that side, but for now, I figure 90% is better than 0% so I'll live with it and add the weldments to my to do list.
