Welcome...and don't say you weren't warned...the slippery slope is well lubricated, thanks to the chronically obsessed here on Pelican.

As they say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!!! Almost drove off the road near Monroe, Louisiana messing with the heater controls! Got enough for the drive (especially defrost)...will mess with it later.

Pilot Dave, Jackson departure, contact Shreveport approach 123.75 good day!:D

Pilot_Dave 01-14-2015 03:55 PM

SCadaddle...pretty funny. Switching Shreveport, g'day.

So, I made it home. Thanks to everyone for the advice and encouragement. All went well.

I figured out the image problem...I can't just upload images, apparently. I have to upload to an online service, and then link them. So I'll try to do that now.

After fifteen hours on the road in two days, I'm glad my Ruby has a stock muffler!!!

Pilot_Dave 01-14-2015 04:04 PM

Ruby as she sat in my Dad's garage when I got there.

Beautiful car Pilot Dave. Bet it feels better being home with your new car! I am curious, it the whale tail an add on or original to the car? I ask because I told Robert (the man I purchased my car from) that I wanted to add the tail. He replied, keep it original. Is yours a turbo?

andybullen 01-14-2015 05:11 PM

yeeeeah!

Pilot_Dave 01-14-2015 05:12 PM

Mine is NOT a Turbo. My car's build had the turbo-tail as an option. The Porsche mechanic who did the PPI printed out a build list with all the option codes based upon the VIN number. It's a late '83, built in March of 1983. It had 16" Fuchs as an option, and has a limited-slip differential option, too.

I think there were two tails available...the SC tail (just a raised lip and the trailing edge), and the Turbo tail (tray-style, three raised edges).

Great looking SC!

Glad you made it home without issue. Enjoy the heck out of it now.

My sentiments EXACTLY!

Pilot_Dave: Your dad kept the car all these years and the car runs and looks great. Why change it, with after market exhausts it does not really need? What is your dad going to think when you start changing what does not need change and he never did? Think about it. :)

Pilot_Dave 01-15-2015 07:07 AM

@adias,

You are exactly right. I decided during my drive to keep it stock right now. It really is beautiful.

Hello Dave

An awesome car !!!!! Glad the trip was all good. If you wanted a cheap great sounding exhaust the Bursch system I've bought for my 84 87 and 81 SC have been great. Just a thought if you were thinking of a non stock great sounding exhaust. And even with all the taxes in Canada I got it home pretty cheap.

Enjoy that car it's bueatiful

John

Excellent! After posting I felt that I was intruding into something that it is not my business. I only did it because I saw a great story - father nurtured a prized car, respected it for its design integrity and performance character for a long time, and now passes it on to son to continue the dream.

I am glad you decided to enjoy the car stock. A 3.2 was the best performing car in the US in 1984. It is very difficult to improve on Weissach. :)
