New member and 911

Hello Pelicans!

Wanted to make a thread to introduce myself and the new to me 964. I bought her this past summer from a great family friend who never really had time or desire for the car, but had had it since new. It has sat almost completely dormant for the past 15 years and is an absolute baby at 18,xxx miles!! (29,000 km for non US-ers)
The car is a 1991 C4 Cab 5 Spd, colored Green / Tan. Although not at ALL the particular 911 that filled my lifetime dreams of Porsche ownership (or yours ), it is a mint condition one nonetheless, and also one I've known for most of its life. It was too good to say no.

The car is an absolute dream to drive, and I can't wait to get tinkering on this wonderful machine. Coming from years of BMW e34 ownership/enthusiasm, almost nothing is cross - comparable and that both excites and scares me a bit hehe.

I just recently finished up initially looking the car over and replacing some wear items. Planned mods for now include wheels and tires, a drop on some new springs/struts, cup pipe exhaust and possible cat delete, and maybe Euro directionals up front. Would love to begin toying with the motor more heavily after spending time here reading about tuning and builds, so no comment yet on what will happen mechanically...
Past toys were a '90 535i/5Spd (origin of "Bigsix" user name), and a '92 S52 swapped 525i w/ the works that exited to make room for the 964.

On to pix! I look forward to learning from you all
Beloved S52 e34 behind in this pic.

And proof of the mileage

That is a beautiful cab. The color is unusual and , hence, pretty cool as well. Overall, an awesome opportunity and one that you'll never regret moving on. I, too, have spent a number of years in various BMWs ( and Mercedes). Had a 90 525 with 5 spd in red. Really nice car and a dream to drive. The BMW and Merc straight sixes pull like nothing else and do so with such silk its amazing. All that said, wait until you red line the 964, you'll be hooked for life, guaranteed. Enjoy it.

Welcome to the tribe. Great looking ride - well taken care of. You probably already know this but this site has a forum specifically for your car: Porsche 964 & 993 Technical Forum - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

Have a great time and don't spend too much money

Very nice car. Please do not modify. That car is far too nice to molest. Just maintain it.

Thanks for the responses guys! I am well aware that the car is a gem and preserved beautifully. The aforementioned "mods" are only tentative... I hope that eases the purist crowd around here a little. For now, my only plans are to maintain and drive the car.
That said, I plan on being the one that enjoys this car well into its senior years, so please hold off on commenting about market value, keeping it young, etc... I mentioned to someone who PMd me, and I'll mention it here. Cars are supposed to be driven! The fact that this one has not been would make the Porsche family uneasy in their graves. I plan on putting steady but light mileage on the car fairly consistently.

Was this car on the east end of Long Island? I believe I have seen this car. Also, you might want to check out Rennlist 964 forum since it is much more active than Pelicans 964 forum.

How far out east? Have driven around the Riverhead area once. I still have yet to spend substantial time driving her.

I looked at it in West Hampton at an Auto Shop. It was sitting in the lot for a while.

Makes sense. The PO used Rubio to have an oil change done in August / September. Where are you located?

I'm in Bridgehampton. I pass Rubio on my way to work. I have never used them for work, but they have very high end cars in their shop all the time, so their work must be good. The funny thing is that I saw the car in the lot one night and called them in the morning to enquire. He gave me a price so low that I went there the next morning with my checkbook. He had a 968 cab in the lot for sale and thought I was talking about that. He said the 964 wasn't for sale.
