G50 popping out of 5th gear & vibration

Good evening all! Strange issue that even some of the most knowledgeable 911 guys I know don't know the answer to.

When driving at hwy speeds (80 mph), if I completely let off the accelerator, the transmission will pop out of 5th gear. You can see the stick physically move backwards as the car decelerates.

Any thoughts on this? I'm also noticing a vibration in step with the RPM of the engine when accelerating and running through the gears. I'm curious if it might have something to do with the rubber center clutch. There is also a bit of vibration in neutral and reving the engine.

Thanks!

Jason

Popping out of gear can be caused by worn bushings or misadjustment in the shift linkage preventing full engagement. I've only adjusted a 915 coupler, so I don't know if there's a similar way to adjust the G50 linkage.

That's what my initial thought was. However, from what I understand, there isn't much to adjust on the G50. I'm gonna take the console out this weekend and get a good look.

Before you go dropping the engine to look at the clutch and flywheel to find the vibration, make sure that everything is happy on the other end of the engine. A chip in a fan blade or a bad alternator bearing can make a big vibration, too.

Check your engine and tranny mounts too if they are original. I replaced mine and it helped a bit with the alignment and did improve the shifting. But I never had the popping out of gear or vibration that you're having.

One issue solved- vibration!

#6 spark plug wire went bad. Probably 10% of spark making it thru. Brand new Clewett wires from Pelican. Pelican guys are great though. Called and started the return process. No questions asked!

Now to investigate the G50 a bit more.

Red Coupe

Sorry posters to be off topic but I wanted to ask red coupe about living in Prescott .
My wife have been there 5 times and just love it and have been thinking about moving in the next year .
Can you tell me the good and the bad about living there ?
I love that there is an american flag on every corner , guns on people's hips and when people wave they wave with all five fingers .

Thanks in advance
