Front Torsion Bar Splines - Help
I am in the process of installing the front suspension on my '70E restoration project and ran into a problem while trying to install the RHS torsion bar in the RHS A-arm. I cannot get the splines to line up. I tried to put the RHS torsion bar into the LHS control arm to check the fit and the splines line up nicely.
I took a close look at the spines in the RHS A-arm (I have the front caps off) and found that instead of 30 splines like the LHS A-arm it had only 29 splines. See the attached pic and count them yourself just to check that I am not suffering from brain fade. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421529885.jpg These A-arms are obviously not original to the car since I am replacing the hydro-pnuematic system with Koni struts and torsion bars. I have never seen an A-arm with 29 splines. I would not think that I have a hydro-pneumatic RHS A-arm as these would not have splines inside as best I know. Anyone have an idea what is going on here? |
This might be helpful in explain why it is that way and how to use it

My issue is with the front bars (not rear).

The 29 spline a-arm is from a 914-4.......

So the 914-4 arm looks identical to a 911 arm? I just reviewed my PET and looks like you are correct. Thanks for the help.
Here is my 914-4 RHS Arm. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421539502.jpg I must be too focused on the 911. As luck would have it, I just sold my last 911 RHS u-tab arm last week. Thanks agian |
Check the spindle nut. I had the same issue, but I had the older spindle on one side with the 16mm spindle nut. Was quite a surprise when I added coilovers to the front and the nut didn't fit in the new spindles with the proper 18mm threads.

Any time, Tom.

My problem is the A-arm not the strut. I have matched late Koni S struts.
|
Hey Tom, do you still have the hydros?
I might have a RH arm for you. |
