Sounds like you have their attention finally. Imagine things will be to your liking from here on out. I would deal through the owner only... Winding back the escalation to lower level troops will likely land you back in the same boat as before.

You didn't just cave in by not repossessing your car today. What happens when you take a half-completed car home and then find a bunch of missing hardware? You've now got that line in the sand, and you've got the attention of the shop. Your car is now a high priority of theirs.
But if it's really not ready by Friday, you've got to trailer it home. Otherwise they'll know you're a pushover. |
I LOVE the look of your car. Very well executed design! For me, just the perfect amount of custom.
Pulling for you on Friday... David |
Comedy of errors is correct but there is nothing funny about what is happening.
How in the holy cow do they put the wrong rear window in your car? Please keep us posted on how Friday goes. I simply am hoping that they can complete your car with high quality craftsmanship and you can move forward with a handsome car. Truly wishing that this nightmare of yours is over soon and you can get back to enjoying your 911. Norcal911 you are a gentleman and deserve a better effort to complete your 911 project. CHEERS! |
Noah930, you are right, I gave them another shot for an extension of time. But Friday is D-Day (Delivery) so I don't give a F what they think of me. Like Lapkritis stated, I got their attention Tues. and am dealing with the owner only as I now have his cell number. I asked the shop Mgr. how loud the muffler sounded. He said it’s loud but not bad. When I talked to the owner when I got home, I asked his opinion of the muffler sound and he said it was installed but not started. I don’t know what is with this guy. The owner said to stop by tomorrow to fire it up as he’s curious as well. He didn’t know I live an hour away and not local to Sac. but I am now thinking of calling him tomorrow morning and going over there again, not just to hear the muffler but to see what they’ve accomplished since today.
David, thanks, I didn’t go the long hood backdate route because underneath, it’s all SC. But I was inspired by many of the earlier rallye 911s in the Random 911 pics thread. |
CONCRETE911, I'm just shaking my head everytime I think about these latest series of events and I've got all the e-mails saved.
Nice Carrera in your avatar! |
I copy pasted this from another thread. Some people are just a nightmare to deal with.
2 years ago I shipped my car to Europe and went for a great Alpine Trip. After that I kept the car in Europe with the single intent of driving it around the NRing. However during that trip I had come across some air leak issues which made my car smoke and idle funny, especially at high altitudes. After the trip I handed the car over to a mechanic a good friend has recommended. He kept it for 3 months. During this time I have booked the Euro Tunnel, 3 night at the Ring, and a Clio with an instructor. Sounded like another dream trip. A month before my arrival I had contacted the mechanic and informed him of my arrival dates. Anyways fast forward I arrive and when I ask for my car to be delivered to me I was told that it wasn't ready. I get the car a week later, exactly the night before my planned NRing drive. I don't know what he did but basically the car was undrivable. I lost the money from the bookings and the mechanic got paid. 3 months and he couldn't find the source of an airleak. I would have made the trip if I hadn't given it to him I also have good mechanic stories though. When I restored my car, the bodyshop kept it a month over the promised delivery date, I didn't mind. They were honest and they did a great job. I hope your story gets a happy ending. |
I think that you did the right thing. Much better if they will finish it properly and reasonably on time.
Hey - a third brake light is GOOD! Think of the safety! ;) But move it to the bottom of the window for a lower CofG. ;) |
I hope dudes are completing your car instead of dickin around here on pelican... maybe that's why it's taken more than jus a spell for them to wrap this up? my employer has paid me to look over pelican more than they'd like... although I work in government so there's always tomorrow...

Why did you pick this shop in the first place? Did you have a friend say they did great work?
Painful reading this thread. Painful you didn't take your car like you said you were going to. Your car will either 1) not be ready on Friday, or 2) will be ready but have lots of things wrong. |
One thing I have learned unless one is after free storage is telling them to take their time. Not that NorCal has done this. I have had ungodly waits a couple of times doing that. Since then ask for a completion date and check with them periodically, not being a pest, to find out progress and if it will be ready on the due date. Usually they will get close to the promise date, probably as the others who aren't so assertive wait and so they can get rid of the PITA sooner.
NorCal even though we feel your pain, this is a great read and will serve to others in the same situ since most of us have btdt. |
Good luck today, fingers crossed that she's done for you!

NORCAL 911 what happened? very curious to know how your car pick up went.
Hope they met your expectations, granted I am prepared for the plot to thicken, it cant be that easy for these guys to clean up their act that quick. CHEERS |
Well, many of you were right, he tried to complete by Friday but couldn’t deliver. Here’s what happened…
I sent an e-mail Friday morning and here’s the string (names changed): Me to shop Mgr.: Can you send me an update on the final bill? I just want to look at it before I come to get the car today. You said you’d call me at 12:00 noon when I can come out to pick it up. If I don’t hear from you by 12:30 I’ll just call shop owner. Thanks His reply: Hello, here is your final bill. Your vehicle will be completed today. I would like you to come about 3pm so shop owner and I can go over your vehicle with you. Thanks, shop Mgr. Me to shop Mgr., Much appreciated. I’ll see you around 3:00pm. So my buddy picked me up from Sacramento and we get to the shop. We go straight to my car in the finishing room and shop owner is working on headliner prepping to install “my correct” R windshield. Conversation goes like this: (shop owner) Hey Ed, what’re you doing here? (me) Shop Mgr. said it will be completed today and to stop by at 3 to go over inspection with you. (shop owner) jaws drop and rolls eyes up … So, he still has much to do, he’ll call me at friend’s house but still committed to have it finished by EOD (6pm). So I decide to call back, shop Mgr. answers and gets me owner. New qtr window seals installed into car but he doesn’t like the fit and orders new seals for Sat. Per my inspection, F & R windshields look great. Windows operate as they should. Door handles look great and open/close as they should. R qtrs. do look crappy with those seals. Headliner completed with dome lights installed, sunroof panel installed and working normally. Dyed sun visors look great. Door panels installed. So, am I satisfied with the car up to now? Yes. The owner is trying his best to make this right, they are working today to finish once the new qtr. seals arrive, re-install rollbar & seats, clean interior and final buff. Am I satisfied with the way I’ve been treated? NO. I will work on that when we discuss payment. He gives me a loner car to drive home and will call me today when it’s completed. I’ll stop by my buddies house as he’ll help me apply the PORSCHE side script as I told the shop Mgr. not to install them (I can’t wait another week just for that). Oh, BTW, that M&K GT3 muffler sounds sweet! My bud said it’ll get louder as more miles are put in it. To me, it has a deeper tone than the Dansk 1in 2out that’s been on the car for a decade…plus it’s lighter as I took the old muffler home and it does feel heavier. Hopefully (I know, still a shadow of doubt, that’s what this experience has done to me) I’ll have some pics to share today. And I also want to apologize to my friends who saw/heard a side of me they will never see again. |
While they "may" have a reputation in Porsche circles, I find it hard to believe that they are smart enough to reproduce.

Not sure why you don't name the shop. Other than your fuss with them on the phone and email they have not been held accountable for their dismal performance. If you are worried about libel/slander you only have to look at your volume of notes and emails detailing missed dates and empty promises.
Keeping them anonymous is tacit approval of their practices. If they get wind of the thread they can join the forum and defend themselves. Lots of other vendors to our community are members and frequent posters. They wouldn't behave the way that shop has knowing the sorry saga would be recorded here. I hope your car turns out well and you're happy with the results. |
oh well...
Owner called and won't receive new seals until Mon. Just got off treadmill sweating like a Shatz & Krum Collision Sacramento. Driving to bay area for a much needed bike ride in Woodside.
Have a great weekend Pelicans and will post Mon. Can't get this Bruce Hornsby song out of my mind... that's just the way it is....some things will never change....that's just the way it is....oh but don't you believe it.... |
