At least they want it right. All will be well. You are a stronger man than me. There would have been blood on the moon. You did good. I would be the one with the reputation. Here I am practicing......... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422148722.jpg |
Interesting...have you made any changes to the project along the way? the reason I ask is that can sometimes delay a project. 4 1/2 months is not that horrible. Many shops operate in that same manner. Some good shops and some bad ones. How is their work? are they very detail oriented? can you expect the very best at the end of it all? I've been there once too many times. One thing I learned, is that most specialty shops never deliver on time unless a top(or above average) dollar is being paid. If the shop does auto accident insurance work, that will take precedance over your car....fair?..absolutely not but they pay top dollar for fast turn arounds.
IMO your next taget date should be in writing with your signature and the shop owners signature. If they deviate from the target date then have a flatbed ready for removal and a shop willing to complete someone else's work. |
NORCALL911 Pulling for you to get your car back with a top shelf quality work, this would take the sting out of getting jerked around by this shop. Is 15 weeks to long to get your work done? some could say no, the real issue has been being told the car would be complete the week of Thanksgiving and not being delivered and then being told the same lame joke every week since.
Again, I hope the quality is top shelf. Hope the exhaust is a symphony to your ears, CHEERS! |
end of story...
Just thought I’d close this thread since I last posted 1/24. I never got a call Mon. 1/26 so I called Tues. and owner said car was done and they were going to do a final buff & clean/detail and that the new seals seated better & I could pick it up at EOD. So, I went over on Weds., we did a walk around and I noticed little things but kept to myself, little conversation, paid my bill and was just glad to have it back in my possession.
Once I got her home in the garage I dove deep at the completed job. I guess detail to them is take a rag and wipe off as much shop dust as you can inside the interior, no vacuuming and blacken the tires. Dust on the headliner, seat crevices, headrests, rollbar, etc. Both headlight seals were loose, part of the trunk seal was sticking out between the hood/fender gap, the drivers side quarter seal where the top bend of the frame transitions to the flat bottom of the frame is installed properly but the passenger side isn’t (see pics). There was some paint runoff on the driver’s side door edge (which I was able to cover up with the graphics I installed). And to top it off, they must’ve went crazy with a saw and F’d up the bottom of the bumper where the old exhaust exited (see pics). My conclusion is a half-ass, sloppy job putting it back together. They are a collision only shop for Porsche, BMW, etc. and don’t have a clue when it comes to small custom work yet they claim they're experts. As speednme1 said above, the commercial collision jobs take precedence over private jobs. Like many of you, I’ve learned my lesson the hard way and appreciate you sharing your personal experiences, many of you were right on the money. For now, I’ll enjoy it as is and will make final adjustments hopefully in time for RRV in Sept. I am just relieved that I’ll never see/deal with them again. Glad you got the car back. Beautiful car!
I agree.... Drive the car and enjoy it. You can address the other issues over time. In fact, if you drive it and get the normal "damage" of road use ( chips, micro scratches, etc) the other stuff may not bother you as much. |
Good looking car. Sorry you went through this but like others said enjoy her for now. You can fix the shortcomings over time.
|
A car like that would make me forget a lot of things! I really like the way the graphics match the wheel finish. What type of wheels are those (sorry if that was already covered). Great looking car.

Bummer - should have been PERFECT! Looks fantastic though - love the P O R S C H E script. I'm planning on using the same on my car when it's back together.
Enjoy it - it really looks spectacular. Chris |
Frankly, I think you should name the shop. I don't even live on that coast, but if I did, I would want to be sure I never had any dealings with them.
|
I agree, name the shop. You have been very fair and judicious with them, and it seems like they have tried but need to make some changes in order to be an option for this type of work. They need to earn their reputation, whatever it is.

^what they said^

See post 60 for the shop. Beautiful car glad you worked it out.

Only positive comments on Yelp, perhaps you can put in a counter review, might save some poor soul a lot of grief.

Top shelf
Looks very nice, classic and functional. The color combo is awesome. Have fun driving that rig to the coast and enjoy a cold beer on the beach. CHEERS!
