Engine Rebuilders Forum

Sometime ago, I think Wayne suggested he might start an Engine Rebuilders Forum. With several of us starting our rebuilds, I think this would be a great idea.
Rebuilders....what do you say?

Yes, but I think it should be an exclusive, members only forum. First qualification should be a greasy keyboard.

Buddy had a paintball team. I suggested he name it "Tactical Weapons & Assault Team." He liked it.

Yeah, an engine forum would be good. Better s/n ratio.

I was under the impression that this "is" the engine builders forum.

Well, I've had other people call me worse things than "funny", LOL!

I suggested this so those of us who have learned *not* to overfill our cars oil tanks, can have a specific place to ask the meaty questions that concern novice rebuilders.

Besides that, Wayne, it'll be a great place to shill your new book!

I think Doug has the right idea....if there was a separate forum for engine rebuilding..the threads would not get lost in all the other (very important) threads.
With the titles of these threads being closely packed together, someone looking for specific info would not have to search through hundreds of threads that only mentioned the subject.
The problem (not much of one) now...when you search the past threads...you get some wierd hits that only have the one search word in them....not a lot of info.

Wink Waffles for breakfast

Wayne, you could break it out the same way as the "Porsche 964/993/996 Technical Forum" is a subsection of the 911 board . . .but then it would need to be a flat-six type of rebuild form, as the 944 guys (for example) would rarley see it.

Reflecting back to the points made about breaking out 911 topics; I say keep it together. I don't believe a seperate subsection would get the critical mass needed to keep it vibrant.

Besides, it's not like you have just one book.

Seconds?

On the other hand, Bob makes a good point. Those engine rebuild guys, like Doug, wouldn't have to get their keyboards so oily if they had fewer keystrokes to get to the information.

. .. although . . . there is a lot of existing rebuild information already on the base 911 board. Hmmm, if only someone could sort it all out. Though it would be quite a chore. There must be enough already to write a book about!

The search function still works, and the info currently has only one level of fragmentation . . .Okay, I'm back to saying leave it alone.

Well, would it be an engine forum, or an engine rebuilding forum? Someone having trouble (like compression testing) or broken pieces (valves/rockers), would those posts make it in there?

I would probably do it if someone wanted to volunteer and go through the 911 Forum and move all of the pertinent engine rebuild info into that forum...

An engine specific forum for rebuild, upgrade, tune-up, etc would be great. I'm interested. I dropped my 2.7 last week for general clean up and cam/carb upgrades.

Dickster sez:
"can't see the point......."

The point (or at least, my point) is there is a lot of chatter on the so-called "911 Technical Forum" that has *nothing* to do with 911 technical issues. That's fine with me too, but if I have a specific engine rebuilding question, I'd like a place to post it. A place where I *know* the engine rebuilders are "hanging out".
Others who would rather discuss sub-woofers and such need not apply to the E.R.F.

I understand the idea, but my issue is that I already have too many places to go to keep up to speed on Porsches. I'd prefer to keep the engine rebuild threads right here.

i think it's a great idea......BUT the key to make it work is a thorough moderator with a "zero tolerance" as to what really belongs there.
they could dump the non-technical items to the 911 board. you could place the link to the forum at the top with the 964/993/996 board.

opinions???

A rebuild sub-forum would be fantastic! And the timing couldn't coincide better with the book release. If it's not too late to mention this specialty forum IN THE BOOK, I imagine that would be a (bonus) book-purchase incentive as well...for guys like me who know they're going to need real-time help to have even a fighting chance.

Seems a lot of us are delaying rebuilds until all the support (book/forum) items are in-place before taking the leap, so the topic should have a large enough following to warrant its own forum. Should be very active from the outset.

Thanks for bringing this up again, Doug.
