Carolina Drive, Part Deux

Despite the rain and fog, the first Carolina Drive day was a great success. Since that time we have had a number of folks ask when the next run was planned. There is nothing official, but a couple of us think it may be time to start looking at the calendar and revising routes.

If you are in the Carolinas and up for another Drive, either send me a PM or post here with dates that work best and or roads you might like to see included. One idea is a “Christmas Tree” run up to Ashe County. There is a great restaurant across the street from a large tree farm that bundles the trees. You could then pretty easily strap it to the roof of the P-car, or, if someone has a pickup truck that they would like to volunteer with which to haul them to a more central point, that would be great.

Also, momentum is starting to grow for a Mid-Atlantic ( ok, really a VA / Carolinas meeting, but everyone is welcome!) Pelican Head gathering in the Spring. Details to follow.

I would be interested. Need to adjust the valves and get my heat working first though so give me some time ;)

Don't think I will be strapping a tree to my targa though. The fake one we have is just fine.

I would like to go on the next drive. Just could not make the last one due to the class I was in. But on the bright side I was the honor grad.

I'm ready to go right now!

PORSHIN 10-21-2002 05:11 PM

OK everyone!
I'm ready to go right now too! I have been talking to Jim Richards of the NoVa group (Nothern Virginia) and it looks as though I must have dropped the ball! I'm right in the middle of all you guys ( Roanoke Va area) and I should have had this thing put together by now! I was just telling Jim I'm centrally located and can put a great route together very quickly if you all would like to do this this weekend or next...most any weekend... let me know your interest and I'll put it together. We'll have a blast! I personally prefer Saturdays.

By the way...to TOPS911...CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'm in, I think. The car has to go back to the body shop for some issues but should not take long. The leaf watching traffic should die down soon so hopefully traffic will be better. But this weekend is out for me if we are talking that soon. I plan to be at VIR for the TransAm and World Challenge races.

Wait Wait Wait... Let me get the C2 first!!!!!

Um anybody wanna buy an SC :)

Halm 10-21-2002 06:12 PM

Ben, just consider driving the SC if we do this before you get the C2. :D

KFC911 10-22-2002 07:12 AM

Count me in! My schedule is pretty flexible, so 'bout any Sat/Sun will work for me...and this time, I don't plan to 'bail out' due to unknown vibrations (i.e. loose muffler strap)....KC

ps. Tim, if my g/f doesn't go (and your car isn't ready), you're welcome to ride along w/ me.

Tim Walsh 10-22-2002 09:26 AM

KC that'd be great!... I'm really not sure how long it'll be before mine's on the road..

Jon Merck 10-22-2002 11:18 AM

Hey, I would love to go. Keep me posted. I look for any excuse to drive the p-car. :D

Mark the calendar

How does this sound for the next Carolina Drive Day? Lock in Saturday, December 7th. We’ll try to find a central rendezvous point, probably around Statesville and meet at 10 AM. This will give the guys from the further points time for a relaxed drive. We will try to pick up the better roads from the last Drive plus a few new ones.

Anyone interested in a Christmas Tree as part of the day? Or can we forget I ever mentioned that as an idea!

As more details take shape, I’ll put up another web site at WWW.Go-Michael.Com/Drive2 . Also, I am thinking about a “rain date” this time. Does December 15th work as a back up?

Feel free to PM me or post here with questions or comments.

Tim Walsh 10-22-2002 07:48 PM

that sounds great to me.. I might even have my porsche on the road by then....but who knows.. it may need a engine rebuild. ride or no ride I'm in

Halm 11-11-2002 05:45 AM

Who' Interested?

Since we are about 4 weeks away from the proposed December 7th date for the 2nd Carolina Drive Day, I just wanted to check in and see who thinks / wants to attend. Feel free to either reply here or send me a private message.

Tim Walsh 11-11-2002 05:53 AM

I'm up for it.. I don't think my car will be but I'll catch a ride if I can.
