Critique my engine build
Input appreciated. I'm building a 3.0 (actually 3.2 SS). I have a solid 1978 3.0 bottom end, 98mm cylinders with 10.5:1 3.0 JE pistons, big port 3.0 heads converted to twin plug, DC80 cams with 104 lobe separation, and a dual plug distributor. I'm thinking 46 PMO carbs. If it helps, this is going in a 2000 pound 904. Thoughts?

All sounds like good stuff so far.
What are you looking at for rods? You have components that will really breath at the top end so you want to be sure that the rods and rod bolts are in their "comfort zone".

Mark,
I would dial back the cams unless you plan to modify the crank with high rpm oil mods (cross drill and grooved bearings on #5). I think that the 80 cam will make high rpm HP and the 3.0 is not quite ready for long term 7K operation. I would look at the DC43. It will pull hard through 7400 rpm before falling off. You might even want to go with the DC40 cam. Mine goes through 7200rpm with no problem - and I still lost #5 rod bearing. ![]() 46mm PMOs will be more than adequate for the job.

Consider your gearing when building your engine. That will help determine where you want your power band at.

Can't disagree with anything here, but you may want to consider 50 PMO's for that motor if you are going to spend a lot of time in the upper RPMs.
What exhaust are you considering?

Have you considered having Al Kosmal build you an EFI intake system? Looks retro but has all the advantages of modern air/fuel delivery.
