Howling in rear??? or tires (RE730)

DANG are these TIRES LOUD!!!

Bridgestone RE730s (205/55 and 245/45) these are about 1/2 worn.

These thing are louder than my Blazer with mud tires. - SERIOUSLY!

Or is it the dreaded rear bearing failing?
How can I double check these bearings?

The tires/bearing are quiet until they (and the car) warm up.

This is most noticeable from 20 mph - (ahem) 65 MPH on the freeway.

This is SO loud, my ears are ringing after a 30 - 40 minute drive!

I can not discern the noise if it is coming from left or right or front and rear... jus the whole car has that DRONING sound....

Please help...

I tossed my the RE730's that were on my "other" car (944S2) because they were so loud. They are the only tires I have actually hated The car quieted right down when I put my snow tires on. My RE730's were very poor quality (out of round) from the beginning.
I see Bridgestone has a "Generation 2" RE730 now because of noise concerns or something like that. I'd see if you can get some money back. Mine weren't noisy until the 2nd day - of course 1st day was a track day.

I run RE730's, and they don't seem that loud to me. Maybe the B&B headers and dual-outlet muffler have something to do with it.

OTOH, you haven't heard loud until you've heard A032R's

Interesting topic. I have an '86 Carrera with worn RE730s that I am scared to drive 'til I fix what I think is a rear wheel bearing gone bad. Perhaps tonight I'll bolt on the track tires to double check the noise exists independent of tires. Currently the car sounds like a freight train is following me. Could it really be the tires?

I have Gen 1 RE 730's on the back and Gen 2 on the front. No noise or handling issues but they both have about 95% of tread left. So far I'm quite happy with them.

I've had a temporary set of RE730 while my Tires were being ordered, and OH BOY they were loud. Sticky, but loud. If my bearings weren't new, I'd have suspected them right away.

Have Mod ll's on front and rear since August--very happy with them to date (3K miles)--no discernable noise--balanced up with minimum weights--great handling. Snow tires they aren't! Drove them up in Wyoming first week of October--a little squirrly in the snow.

For some weird reason, I didn't think about putting on my track tires...

I will try that - Thanks all.

*** Oh boy... taking the track tires to work NOW THAT will be FUN!
