Shift rod bushing/bearing bushing

Was cleaning up the 73.5 today and found the following in the tunnel:

Beneath the rear tunnel cover and to the driver's side of the shift coupler, I found the bushing/washer fragment on the left along with similar material of no discernible shape. This was the largest piece that had any shape. I am not able to determine what this piece and its accompanying pieces are/were.

I extracted the piece on the right by inserting a vacuum hose through the front tunnel access and directing rearward toward the shifter assembly. It appears to me that this piece is the shift rod bushing/bearing bushing/guide bushing.

Obviously need to replace the shift rod bushing, but any suggestions for what I found in the rear?

Thanks in advance.

Since no one else is giving you a bump, I will put in my 0.02 cents. Could not quite follow all your explanation.

The piece on the left looks like a piece of the shift rod bushing (#56). Mine had not broken, but had started to turn to a similar color as yours. Replacement is semi-transparent white. Inside diameter is just under one inch.

Are you sure the piece on the right is not part of the shift rod bushing also? Looks like the same color, hard to determine the material from the pics though.

Other thought on the piece on the right. On this site, I think one of the replacement coupler bushings is white (part of #61). Could the piece on the right be that bushing that has deteriorated like the shift rod bushing? Whoever had replaced my coupler had left the old bushing parts on the bottom of the tunnel and the TOP (!?!?!) of the coupler.

Left one looks like #56 but the right one is hard to tell.

Piece on the right is possibly a throttle rod bushing.

yes. The one on the right is the throttle rod guide bushing. It supports the throttle rod through the tunnel. You might notice the throttle rod vibrate against the tunnel without it.

If you replace one of the shift bushings its a good idea to replace all 4. Our host has an inexpensive kit.

Thank all of you guys for your input. I apologize for not putting a quarter in the photo for better reference to size. The size of the piece on the right in the photo is about the size of a fifty-cent piece and the one on the left is about the size of a dime...which leaves me a bit confused as I thought the larger of the two would be #56. This was the part found near the shifter assembly. The smaller piece was found with many other similar pieces in the tunnel between the rear footwells.

Check your post. I think your pictures might be inverted. Common Apple product issue.

The larger of the two is #56 - shift rod bushing.

Jamie, thanks also for your input. Have the kit you mentioned in my cart as I write this, just shopping for a few more items before I complete the purchase.

93nav, I am wondering if these parts weren't left in the tunnel, too. I haven't really appreciated any change in shifting or noise/vibration so I need to look further to see if they may have been replaced and the old pieces left to create a German maraca.

Jamie, that is a good bit of info to have. I was about to place "R" and "L" on the respective hands as I thought I was losing my mind.

While the car is off, tap on the gas pedal, if you hear a rattle, then the 1 or 3 of the gas rod bushings are disintegrated. This would be the best time while you have the shifter part to replace the center one.

The ones in front and rear are easy peasy.

Throttle Rod bushing. Had not gotten into that part of the car, so had no idea. I will need to check out mine now.

jpnovak, Thanks for pointing out that possibility, the left, right references were confusing me.
