is this a cat bypass pipe? If so, do I run in Open Loop?
Still in the process of sorting out stuff on this 81SC project. After trying to connect all wires associated with the Oxygen Sensor (which I couldn't find) and the frequency valve test port, Im wondering if all of it is unnecessary. If a cat bypass is used, am I forced to disable the Lamda and run in open loop? Or, should I drill and weld in an oxygen sensor bung? Whats the best route here?
I was not able to find an opening to put an oxygen sensor on this... ![]() ![]()

I would weld on a bung to have the 02 sensor in the system. They are cheep and easy to fit

I got mine welded into the top pipe of my pre-silencer for $50 at the local muffler shop. Make sure to use high temp anti-sieze when you put the sucker back in.

if smog checks are required, you should install the o2. if not i wouldnt bother. the FV needs to be working though. i dont know how much of the wiring is missing, but if that valve is not buzzing the car wont run right.
if you want to get fancy, since youre already working on the o2 system, install a wideband o2 controller, then you could send the simulated narrow band signal to the ecu and have more precise control over mixture. cis runs lean

Absolutely no on wide band right now. Too many variables. Get the bung and universal O2 sensor. Get it working, THEN get fancy. Not dissin' Jason, if Kemo has to go through the O2 learning curve, let him do it on basic vs advanced. $20 for the universal Bosch. ![]()

How do you set it up to run with out O2 sensor? I bought my 82 with SSI heat boxes on it with the O2 sensor missing. Seems to run very well, a bit of idle issues when warming up but I think that is another issue. Still learning on this one and once i get my shop and lift going I will be able to really dive into this more.

That's a resonator pipe from the mid 70s. If you look down it from muffler end it looks like a glaspac inside.
