Engine Tin

My car was missing the rear piece of engine tin. I now have a replacement piece but it looks like it is very difficult to instal after the motor is in. It appears to be impossible to slip it in from the top, can it be installed from the bottom, or is it not possible now?

Oops dopey me. 74 911 2.7, the engine tin is cut away to clear the tensioner oil lines.

I was able to remove and install them back except for the 2 pieces
of tin parts mounted on top where the main harness gromet was mounted. This was for '78SC car. The 2 pieces could still be removed but rubber gromet was not easy to mount back.

When you said "back" I was thinking back-of-the-engine-when-you're-looking-at-the-fan. Duh!
The rubber seal will hinder your access to the engine tin. I think you could get in there by partially lowering the engine. That piece of tin rests on a "shelf" on each cam box cover.

I just replaced mine after a tensioner job on my 74. it goes in easily from the bottom but it's a pain to get the screws started unless you have tiny hands. I used hemostats, curved pliers, magnets, etc etc. I got all but the 2 outer screws in. maybe with some help aligning the holes I can get those in also. Actually I installed it once without the a/c mounts installed and then couldn't get the a/c mount bolts in. then removed the tray, installed the a/c mounts, and couldn't get the tray screws back in. not much room for sockets and fingers. maybe a partial drop would make it a whole lot easier.
