1/4 window seal

I'm finding, like everyone else I've spoken with, the window seal extremely difficult to install. Any tricks? I have recently been told to use silicon and a soft rubber mallet. They (the seals) need to stretch an inch at the straight section to get the corners lined up correctly. I must have started at the wrong location. When I stretched it, it tore on one corner.

I used WD40. You need to fold it back and hook the near side in the channel and then use that as sort of a lever to force the opposite side in the channel. I can't remember where I started, but I know the flat forward edge kept wanting to pop out. I think I started at a corner. Not a lot of stretching required. It took me 20-30 min a side. One thread I read suggested using a paint can key to push it in. HTH
