Thanks Wayne!!!!

Wayne,

I just wanted to say thank you! I can't tell you how happy I am that you host your own pictures on this forum. With the recent PhotoBucket debacle, every other car forum I'm on is a total wreck.

Thanks again!

Hal

Funny you posted this. I was thinking about starting the exact same thread. 100% agree. Thank you Wayne. Your foresight has preserved the data and technical support people get from Pelican.

Wow, had never occurred to me where the forum and photos are kept specifically. This forum and archive is plenty valuable to me. So big thanks from here also.

Yes, Kudos for that! I am a little confused, though, that some photos are not showing up for me (just the stupid photobucket image). Does that mean the poster pulled them/posted them from/using photobucket, rather than their personal archive? Sorry I am not so internet savvy...

Most likely they did not want to pay the several hundred dollar ransom photobucket demands now.

And thank you Wayne for the books I used to rebuild and restore my 911.
And all the parts that I got from this site.

About a week ago photobucket disabled all hot links for reposting photos you have in an album with them. They want $400/yr to enable your account. And every other photbucket account in the world. Car forums everywhere are riddled with that message.

Wayne offers to host photos on his own servers. So pelican photos WAYNE is hosting are still alive.

$400 per year? Do they prefer bitcoin or something?

Seriously though, I appreciate this forum too. It's an invaluable resource, and the photo hosting is a critical part.
Thank you Wayne!

This is actually nothing new. There have been a few great Pelican threads over the years that have lost all their pictures because posters lost the offsite photo hosting. The Carrera2China thread comes to mind.
+1 Kudos to Pelican!

The improvement to the forum software has been great.

Is there any direct way to search the photo databse? Instead of uploading duplicate photos when I want to talk about certain things I do a gis including "pelican" in the search to find things I've uploaded. If we could all visually access the photo directory here it would be huge.

It always seemed like a bad idea to trust other people with proprietary content. Actions like this make it harder / more difficult for other cloud providers. Maybe it's my New York upbringing, but I don't trust anyone! Even Google - they have the worst reputation for discontinuing stuff. Last year, I spend days implementing a supplemental search feature using Google search for websites. Paid up for a year of service. Then they discontinued the whole thing and disconnected me about 30 days later. Google Desktop all over again.

Yea, except that he only started hosting pictures in late 2016.
So, the pre-2017 archives of this forum have been gutted into a wasteland just like every single other forum on the net

For example: Just became a Porsche owner, so I've got some questions

I brought this up a while back, but it never gained traction. See post #80
Help me test the new drag-and-drop picture upload routine...
