MidWest R-Gruppe Event

Anybody else sick of viewing photos and reading about the exploits of the West Coast R-Gruppe guys? <i>(actually, I could look at those photos all day long but ;) ....)</i> Well, it's time to do something about it - a MidWest R-Gruppe Event!

It's official, this <u>will</u> happen in Spring 2003. It's in the preliminary planning stages so a date and location have not been selected. The plan is for a 1 day event to test the waters. We'll find a place to meet (I'm thinking Indy might be appropriate and a central location), find some good twisties and then go out for a nice long drive.

Please send me an eMail or PM (or just reply to this post) if you are interested and I'll add your name to the list. This is open to both R-Gruppe members and Early 911 owners in general. -- Curt

Curt, for the sake of letting prospective members know what there in for, I think you had better outline the Incoming Blood ordaining rituals and RGruppe psalms which prospective members must memorize and swear allegence to.

Only after all the specified steps have been performed and passed with approval of Herr Gruppmeister will the new RGruppe member then be able to begin to know the joy of being in our"merry band of misfits"

They will then be ready to start learning the essence and understand what "wolfpack" driving is really all about.

There is also a shipment coming to you of Black crushed velvet hooded robes a-la "grim reaper" style, in various sizes. Pls let Herr Gruppmeister know if they fit o.k.

Good Luck with your first Rguppe "Tour"

Cheers!

Shhh, shhh, shhh. We don't wanna scare 'em off before they commit! ;) And Sam, thanks for the additional photos  Remember, paybacks are hell ... -- Curt

Count me in Curt. Although I am not an RGruppe member, I would be glad to help out anyway I can. If we put some effort into this thing maybe we too will be able to flood the message boards with pictures of our event;)

This sounds interesting...please keep me informed

My parents are from Indiana, does that help me?

Curt, keep me posted on this too. I know I am not mid-west based but as far as I know we don't have a Southeast R-Gruppe leader. Not yet anyway. ;) Hopefully by Spring I will be able to recite the honorable chants and gain the favor of Herr Guppemeister.

Indy is about as far as I would want to drive I think. Cincinnati would cut a couple of hours off if there were any East Coasters wanting to make the trip.

Tom, I'm going to compile the list over the next few months and then try to find a spot that is as centralized as possible (and has some worthwhile roads!). Indy was just one thought. One thing for sure, we - as a group - are spread out and some pretty good travel time will be required no matter what. We'll see what happens .... -- Curt

It appears from Sam's photos that a major R Gruppe tradition is to stuff yourself with as much food as possible after driving as fast as possible ;) .

Curt, I hope you have a restaraunt (Mid-West Rib/Steak house?) that you are planning on including on your route!

I'm not an R-Gruppe member, or even an early car owner for that matter. Perhaps you would allow a guy with an '86 Carrera attend in order to properly "educate" me to the finer points of early car-dom?

Groupies already...?

Well, I have personal experience with the Mansfield County Sheriff Department just outside of the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course. Free room & board for the night if you drive fast enough. Maybe we can get a 'Gruppe' rate. :) -- Curt

Sure, we will always need someone to wash the cars....;) hehhe

Let me second Racemor's suggestion of Cincinnati. That is a 500 mile haul from here but I would be up for it. A little further south and east would be even better.

Just another unsolicited suggestion. . . :D

cegerer 10-28-2002 02:44 PM

Cincinnati's out - way too close to Cornpanzer's house! :D -- Curt

racemor 10-28-2002 04:50 PM

Halm, that would be cool if you went, I'll bet you would have the only car to attend both the Western and Midwest meetings. Your car's p.o. did go to Cambria, right?

Cornpanzer 10-28-2002 05:32 PM

Cinti would be fine by me Curt!!! :D One advantage to that is that I would be happy to do all the homework for routes, places to eat and lodging. Whatever works out works out! I'm flexable.

Racemor, In a quick search, I could not find it in any previous events. It was home in NC when they held this years event and couldn't find much in '01.

cegerer 10-28-2002 05:50 PM

Cornpanzer: <i>"I'm flexable."</i>

Yeah, right. I would be too if I had a 20 minute drive to get there! Look, we're all going to share equally in the misery of 5 hours of travel time and be happy about it! :D -- Curt

Well well....we see your true colors there Curt! Personally I ENJOY driving my early 911 for 5 hours. Maybe that just makes me more of an enthusiast.......;) Oh yeah, I remember the last time I invited you down here to Ohio......waaahhh, it might rain.... hehe. Looking forward to the event wherever it might be.

Curt, how about a 6hr drive to Watkins Glen and you would get some East coast
cars too.
