Early Dash Pad Fitment Issues
I am in the process of refreshing the interior of my 1970 911. I purchased a new (reproduction) dash pad from a fellow pelican. It appears to be new and I believe it is the same one aase sells. It looks great however upon installation the bolts and nuts that hold the speaker grille in are about a 1/2 inch long and hit the metal dash frame where the original speaker indentation is. This prevents the dash pad from lying flat as it should. It almost seems like I need to cut these studs off and glue the speaker grill in place. Grinding the studs/nuts would perhaps make too much heat and create additional issues. Not the fit I was expecting. Any advice would be appreciated.

You might try a cut off wheel on a Dremel to shorten the studs. You can control the pressure and not create too much heat. You might have to dress threads on the ends of the studs.

Think I would just massage the metal dash a little to give room for the studs or drill holes. No risk to damaging the dash pad.

Both options considered and may have to use one or the other. Just a little apprehensive about cutting and drilling. Of course once it's installed who's going to know! I appreciate your words of advice.
