Have decided flowmaster...which one for stock 3.2??

Hi all,

Car will have stock heat exchangers, premuffler, and something like the dual out Flowmaster. Which Flowmaster do I need for my 3.2? According to my searching/asking questions this seems to be best bang for buck.

Thanks
James

Check out the 93-2004 Camaro/Firebird Flowmaster. 2.5 in, dual 2.5 out.
I have a similar setup(Flo-Pro) on my SC and I love it. Not too loud but screams at WFOT. About half the price of a Flowmaster at 80.00. I had one outlet capped off to keep my valence stock with one outlet.
Check out any local speed shop in your area. I don't believe our fine host, Pelican Parts, carries them.

Here is my setup. The angle iron is to let the muffler "hang" on the factory hanger. I used two HD band clamps to secure it to the engine mount just like the factory setup. If you need more pics, let me know.

I'd love to see more photos....What did you have to do to the muffler to make it fit? If I wanted 2 out, would the muffler work with out modification (except for angle iron for mounting)?

Thanks
Chris

Delta 80 Series, single 2.5-inch in, dual 2.5-inch outs. Both Jegs and Racer Parts Wholesale have it for about $100. It's part number 389-42583, a replacement muffler for a 1982-02 Camaro Z28/Firebird Trans Am.

Here are a couple more pics. The muffler fit my SC with no problems. I had a local muffler shop fab up the cap for the one outlet and the bracket. The pipe to the premuffler is 2.5. You can use the second outlet but you WILL have to modify your valence.

You can see the muffler hangs down below the valence just a bit.
I am not into chrome so I just painted all the bits BBQ black.

EDIT: Thanks for the part# Jack. I took my setup from yours, BTW.

Anyone ever dyno a similar set up vs stock, or vs stock with second tip added?

In case you want to go Magnaflow ( A bit quiter but still a good scream at WOT)

It now has Mandrel bent tubing and no actual tip, just a black painted end on the pipe it self.

Uber cool information! Anyone got a diagram (to show muffler shop) of the delta 80 installation for a 3.2? Or is it the same as Jack Olsen's 3.6 installation?

Sushinav, dyno info is available. Follow the link that Steve Wong gave me in the following response. You will find 3.2 test info in the 968 link he provided. For what its worth...he has shown me excellent customer service. That's worth alot in my books;

Hi James,

No bother at all, and thanks for your interest. If heat is not a
concern,
the best bang for the buck would be a set of 1 5/8 headers, (1.5" i.d)
such
as the Bursch you mentioned or a set of European George headers mated
with a
good flowing dual out sport muffler, such as a Monty, or you could make
your
own. The freer the muffler, the greater the hp output with the
headers. If
you need heat, then the GHLs are the larger diameter headers, second
would
come the SSIs, with it's smaller diameter pipes. If you just want
inexpensive while cost effective, certainly a premuffler mated with a
sport
type muffler such as the Flowmaster or similar will give similar gains.
The
difference over the other setups, is that the headers usually gain you
about
5 more hp throughout the mid to top end. With any type of setup, I
have
chips to match whichever setup you choose. You cannot make an exhaust
on
the 911 too free. It's just if you make the header diameter too large,
you
loose exhaust velocity at lower rpm, which create more backpressure
than
with a proper diameter primaries which have greater velocity. Here's
a
link you may want to look at, though the information is dated, it can
give
you an idea of what exhaust mods can do.
http://www.968turbo.de/chipFAQ.html Although it doesn't say, test #2
is
done with a european premuffler in place of the cat. If you have any
other
questions, or if I can be of further assistance, feel free to ask me.

Best regards,
Steve Wong

Mark Wilson put my old 1-in, 2-out Flowmaster on his SC, and made this audio/video clip of it.

You can hear my Flowmaster in the 'see it go' clip in my signature.

I've got the single in dual out camaro flowmaster that fits a stock 3.2L exhaust. I ran it on my car for about a month. It sounded much better than stock and was lighter. I went with a different option that turned out to be a mistake. Should have kept the flowmaster on.

I'll sell you mine for $30 plus shipping. It'll need pipes since it's just the muffler at this point.

Rob, I think BRJ had his MagnaFlow for sale here a while back. It may still be up for grabs.

I like the sound on video of Ben's muffler. The 1in/1out wasn't available when I did mine. I did mine cheaply so the wife wouldn't get too upset.
The total was around 150.00 installed.
