Lightweight inexpensive battery

I'll probably get some criticism for this, but I'll post it anyway. I've been using a SHURiKEN SK-BT20 subwoofer battery (in place of a regular battery) in my daily driver 911 for the last three years. It's worked out great, weighs 13lbs, it's tiny (3"x7.5"x6.5"), and cheap ($65).

SHURiKEN SK-BT20 12V Car Battery Power Cell (SKBT20)

No cold start problems or anything...

That's great, do you have any pictures from the installed location.

Thanks

never seen a battery designed specifically for a speaker

they are decent little batteries. used to install a lot of them in multi-battery sound systems a few years ago.

I dont see why anyone would give you a hard time, its pretty common to run these types of batteries in sports cars. Ive used a Hawker PC 680 many times in the past in various cars. It is about the same size but is a bit more expensive. The 930 keeps a giant bat because it goes a long time between starts.

It seemed silly to use the small battery from a multi-battery sound system as a replacement for the giant battery of a 911, but it's working well.

I have also been using the BT20 in several of my cars for many years, no problems here either.

It's not held down by anything. I want to build a bracket for it, but I don't have any good ideas yet. It looks a bit strange since it so much smaller than the original.

To hold the battery down, you might consider the cutting board setup as shown here HTTP://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/551173-another-battery-install-thread.html?highlight=battery+install
I find this setup simple and affective as it involves no drilling or welding of the carīs body.

Awesome, I'm going to do that too. I just commandeered a bit of sheet metal from the recycling

Nice battery... is that a fine layer of saw dust in there?

I see your $65 subwoofer battery and raise you my $40 motorized wheelchair battery

(which has consequently been renamed to "audio system" battery by the website where I got it below)

ecomElectronics.com - UPG - Black 12V 18AH M6/T6 Audio System Battery Replaces Odyssey PC680 - UB12180ALT7132

Been in use for over a year w/o any issues.

Yea, it's weird that you noticed that because it is saw dust... I had the frunk and the back door of the garage open for a bit while I was using the table saw outside (Portland has really nice weather right now). A little bit of the dust got in with the breeze before I shut the door.

Steve aren't you worried with that battery shaking around you will get a short or bust the battery and get acid everywhere?

Wow $40 that is a no brainer. Do you keep it on a trickle charger or anything? how often do you drive the car?

Well, it's in the same place every time I open the frunk, so I suppose not. That being said, I'll be making a bracket like the one in the above picture.
