Tonight's Porsche Photo Trivia

I'll be the first to admit: if somebody else posted this image I wouldn't have a clue as to what it was. But if you look real close, there are a couple of small clues. If somebody gets this, I'll be REAL surprised!!

So, what/where/who/why?

Same car in a slightly later livery:

It looks like a 917 and a Bradley GT had sex.

looks like someone took the middle 12" out of a 910 and reworked the rear scoops a little.

The driver in the top photo is a clue (but it's not Ickx) and the wheelbase has been altered (but it wasn't shortened!).

Hmmm.

In the first photo, the second man from the left in the background and the man on the far right touching the front fender are both wearing period correct nurses uniforms.

Why?

After consulting my library i will say that it is a 68-69 short tailed 908 cut down the middle to be narrower for some reason.

I'm logging off for the night. Here's a couple of clues:

1. The driver is very well-known, although I never knew him to be associated with Porsches in any way.

2. The car bears his name.

3. The car is a one-off design and started life as a 50's era Porsche!

4. The car lead a major race before mechanical difficulties were encountered.

Good luck. -- Curt

The Pelican board is stumped? Amazing!

The is the 1967 Fitti-Porsche. 'Fitti' as in Emerson (and Wilson) Fittipaldi. The car started life as a 1957 550 Spyder RS!! It was lengthened 20 CM's and fitted with a custom aluminum body. It actually was leading the 1000K race in Brazil before fumes and a fire in the cockpit forced it out. The car was later sold and raced in South America at least until 1970.

They don't get much more obscure than that. -- Curt

My only excuse is that it's hard to see those mutton-chops through the windshield.
