86 Carrera Cruise Control Vacuum Line

I was checking for vacuum leaks and decided to pull on the other end of the vacuum hose that goes to the Cruise Control unit in the engine bay, and to my surprise, the hose is not connected to nothing? WTH?

Can someone point me where it should be connected to?

Either, the hole is plugged where this hose should go to, or there is a HUGEE vacuuum leak!

Serge

Show a pic of your line and we can tell you where it goes.

There are two hoses connected to the CC unit, small one is the vacuum line tee'd off the hose coming from intake, large one is a vent - should be routed to the center/forward of the engine bay and routed down an opening and vents to atmosphere. That's probably the one you discovered. Here's a relevant link showing the smaller hose and its routing in the event that's the one your chasing down:

Whee does this vacuum line go?

Hope this helps.

Thanx guys,

It's number 15 on Draco's image......Darn, I was hoping this was going to fix my cars "RPM" dipping.

But, according to other folks, it appears that it either connect to "nothing" or a charcoal canister.

If braided it is a breather hose, if not then it is a vacuum. Let me check my car which is which.

That is definitely a major vacuum leak if not connected plus cruise will not work.

Skinny is in front, braided is the breather in the back.

What is your base idle setting at? DO you have a mod chip or OEM?

Draco,

I have not opened the "Brain", so I assume it is a stock chip. As to the Base Idle, 800 or so, but this RPM dipping has been bugging me.

I also was thinking that that big braided hose was the one used for vacuum to the CC.

Nene, too bad you are so far north. Well maybe when I visit my Moms in Sanger I can take a look at your baby.

Okay, so you jumper connector B & C to obtain the Base idle readings? I assume Yes.

Dipping when driving or at idle when you blip the throttle?

As far as braided, it is the breather, is the other hose connected to the front port on the CC? Pics would really help :-/

Jim

Yes, I did jumper the B&C to do base idle, which is easy.

The dipping is really bad when the car is cold, although the car starts right up and does
not "surge". Once I get going then shift, the RPM dipp like a rock all the way to 800 or so
and does not die or hickup. As it gets warm, the dipp is less rock hard, but still hits the 800 mark,
and all of this makes shifting even harder.

Sounds like you have the notorious OEM chip side affect. But before that, we need to insure there is no vacuum leak to remove that from the equation.

So, on cold start does she do the 45 second warmup ilde at 1.1K-1.2K RPMs? 1100-1200

Yep, the warm up is at that RPM range for that amount of time.

Okay, after warmup idle did you leave her on and remove the oil cap? Does the idle drop or stay pretty much the same?

Yes, the idle does drop when removing the oil cap, but then the idle is corrected by the DME.

Allot or a little? Should be allot. In any case, do the trick and let us know.

Next would be to check AFR.
