Hello, been lurking for a while but finally joined after I recently purchased a 77 911S. Got a lead from a friend that this car was for sale and not running or driven since 1997. The seller was a PCA member and did all his work himself and kept good records. 135k total miles, heads off 25k ago and studs were OK per seller. We'll see. I was able to start the car with some carb cleaner to listen for any major knocks or smoke. Nothing. Compression is OK, however, two cylinders on opposite banks are 135 and the others are 155. This was done with a cold engine sitting all these years so hopefully with some driving the two will come up a bit. The fuel tank has some rust so it is getting boiled out and relined and I think the fuel pump got killed with rust when the seller tried to start it the week before I saw it. He gave me boxes of parts including fuel pumps and extra wheels. Fuchs? How do you tell? The price was VERY fair so I am not overly concerned with doing some engine work even if its major. I am more concerned with the body integrity which this car is excellent. Always a Southern CA car and garaged. Zero rust, perfect pan and no accidents. Nose is clean, no Bondo. Had a windows out bare metal respray in Base/Clear Glasurit in 89 but there are scratches on it from storage. Looks like I will be able to wet sand and polish the scratches and get away with painting a couple of panels. Just want a clean driver. Original front seats were replaced with Recaros and they are in dirty but good conditon. The car has a sunroof, aftermarket Porsche-Aire A/C with the huge condenser mounted to the floor, and manual roll-up windows (yeah!).

Happy to have another Porsche, I had a '63 B Coupe 15 years ago and a '65 SC Cabriolet in the late 80s, Obviously, I wish I still had the '65 cab due to its present day value.

Anyway, this is a great forum with lots of real people that really work on their cars. Couple of pics, its not cleaned up yet.

Congrats and welcome! Sounds like you got a great deal, and nothing that a little TLC wouldn't take care of. From your other posts it looks like you are on to a great start.

The fuchs certainly look like fuchs. I believe there is a small emblem of an embossed fox head on the inside of the wheels that should be visible under grime when you get there. I might be wrong.

Great project car, Avanti. I'm sure you'll have fun bringing it up to snuff.

Welcome to the forum. You are going to have so much fun putting that car back together. A decent vacuuming will transform that interior. Now when I was back in college, that Escort would have made the driver look very wealthy, as well as "tech saavy", LOL.

Nice.

I'd put $ on those compression numbers coming up once the car has been driven for a while

Good luck and enjoy

Nice car.

Hint; I find it helps to put the year of your car in any title you start.

Our 1977's are sort of an orphan year, also known as a transitional year.
