Bad news from the shop - R&P

Just got a call from the shop doing my transmission rebuild. They say my ring & pinion is in bad shape, and that at the very least I should find a good used one. I wouldn't know a bad R&P if you dropped it on my foot, so I'm going on trust here.

The irony is that I just bought the PHII bearing retainer and side plate, to be installed with this rebuild.

Any sources for a used R&P?

I am sure you tried Silver Star - what about Heavenly?

My dad's 80sc dropped a pin on his R&P. Ate the Ring up, it ran him $800 used...

Good luck.

let me know if you can't find one locally. mine are complete with diff and all the shims. just swap them out and you're done. usually i get $450 for them, but perhaps i can cut you some slack.

That's bad luck.

But on a brighter note, how's the board coming on?

John: I've read your posts for awhile on this board, and you're always helpful and insightful. Your offer of help here takes the cake, however. You're what this board is all about -- Porsche afficianados helping one another.

Way to go!

JW - I'll call the shop in the AM and see what the progress on finding one locally has been.

The board is the only thing that's gone right this week. I took it out for "sea trials" today in a local olympic-sized pool (unheated). It floats great, and paddles pretty easily, but it is a tank @ 30lbs! 2 layers of 7oz on the deck and one on the bottom, plus a very generous hot coat will do that.

I'm already tempted to do a second board, but with a bottom of carbon fiber and a top of carbon kevlar; one layer of each, and with Blue foam instead of Super Green (10% lighter) Don't know how it would perform, but it would be breathtaking to behold.

I did a proper sand-down and polish up with this one; check out how the carbon fiber bit on the nose came out: (I still wasn't done when I took this shot)
