Bendpak md-6xp / Quickjack 5000
So I'm ready to buy either one. I have a short 9 ft ceiling. Cant fit a 2 post.
I would appreciate real world experiences from users. Engine-tranny drops. Brakes. Exhaust. Cleaning. Some cars with AC lines some without. It would be my hobby lift to use in Porsches from multiple decades. Opinions please, Thanks

My garage ceiling is lower than 9' so I bought a MaxJax.
Costco has/had them for $1995. with free delivery. Nice to have access to the entire underside and have used for an engine drop.

I like the storability and portability of the scissors lift.
If I put a 2 post I can't park 2 cars side by side. Yeah another first world problem Another reason I don't want a 2 post.

I did not buy but did a ton of research on this a while back. If I were to pull the trigger on a scissor lift today it would be the Rotary Revolution model.
You will find that the Bendpak has 3 safety stops and the rotary has 6 or 8 (can't recall off the top of my head). I think that gives it a lot more flexibility when you have a shorter ceiling. All other thing considered they do seem to generally equal. One other thing is that we actually have a Rotary dealer in my city and I was able to check one out in person whereas I couldn't do that with the Bendpak.

I have a Titan 6,000 lbs. mid-rise scissor lift (similar to the Bendpak) that I use for my 1979 911 SC. I love it. I’ve used it for suspension work; oil changes; transmission fluid changes; brake work. I just did a partial engine drop to take out the CIS system – it literally took me 10 minutes to drop the engine.
I also considered the quickjack or other low rise alternatives, but even with a low ceiling you can raise the car much higher with a mid-rise lift. A full engine drop would be a breeze. And I only paid $1,500 for the Titan, including delivery, which was about the same as a quickjack. The downsides with the mid-rise lift are it’s hard to move around and it’s an inch or two too high to drive the car over. You’ll need to either build ramps or dig a hole in your garage floor. Some people don’t like the idea of having to drive up onto ramps every time you put the car in the garage. Took me about 24 hours to get used to it. |

I have the Bendpak. I love it.
I did drop it down into a pit. Cover the pit with plywood, and it is basically totally out of the way. That reduced the overall height of the lift some. I have not tried an engine drop, but I had no problem changing the transmission fluid. I can lube the drive shaft on the El Camino with ease. I mounted my power unit on the wall and ran the hoses under the concrete through a conduit. With the piece of plywood on top of the lift I can park with ease, and it makes a great work table for working on my lawn mower and even the gas grill.

I have the MD-6XP. Bought it for an engine drop. Worked extremely well and I'm very happy. Yes it does only have three stopping points. Thus far that has not been an issue.
I looked at some others and this one does have very high build quality. You can move it much more easily by taking a flat "furniture" type four-wheeled dolly rated for 1000 lbs, and when the lift is lowering, put that dolly right underneath the cross bar at the center of the lift. As the lift comes down it will flatten onto the dolly, with one end up. You can easily move it around in all directions at that point. I don't have photos of that but can take some. Dry-break connectors on the hydraulic line is a must. Also, I use Raceramps, which are another great purchase. Would have loved to have done a recessed install like GH85Carrera mentions (that is the way to go !), but that wasn't a good option for my garage setup based on the other cars I park inside. For me, the Quick Jack was too low for what I needed to do. A scissor lift is much better for engine drops. There are times you will wish it was totally open underneath, but that is one of the trade-offs. No one lift is perfect, but this checked more boxes for me than the others. https://photos.app.goo.gl/DxjBf5vS18rByDvx1 https://photos.app.goo.gl/0iJ7QCyJveNjEa943 Last edited by superninety; 11-17-2017 at 06:45 AM.. |

I have a baseplate lift as well as a bendpak scissor lift. I have my Porsche on my bendpak currently and since there isn't anything in the center of an aircooled Porsche that one would need access to it works out great. I just use four small squares of wood on the recommended lift points. I also had my bus on my bendpak for a while and the plates came right up to the factory jack points. Didn't think I would like a scissor lift much but they are very portable and don't infringe on your parking space in a two car garage.

I have the Quick Jack. A 9 ft ceiling would be a luxury to me. My garage has an I-beam running across it that is only 6'3" or so. So I went with the QJ.
I don't regret it actually. We have more cars than garage space, and it's easy to move the QJ around and use it in the driveway. Mark

I picked up a Bend-Pak on Craigslist several years ago and love it. I have R&R'ed engine/transmission, brakes, lubes, etc. I normally park the Roadster on the lift as evidenced by pools of Swepco...

I made some jacks for my snap on lift out of jack posts used for houses. Can pick them up at depot many different sizes, work great car is solid as a rock on lift no worries of getting crushed.

![]() Here's mine. $1995. I had to cut some rafters and re attach them higher up to clear the top of cars. I will probably cut holes in the concrete and pour deeper concrete to bolt down the bottom after I'm comfortable with the location. Atlas had a lift that the legs were lower than my garage door but It wasn't available for a period of time so I got this one with higher posts and cut the top off the one leg by the garage door (also had to cut that cable length). All three of my cars fit under and on top and on the side under the boat.

I have a Bendpak and love it for most stuff. Rather than sinking it in the floor, I built a wooden frame system that I drive the car up on.

Love my scissor lift but do have to be careful on the placement of the pads so you do not crush oil or AC lines. Works much better on my 914-6.
