Replacing Door seal question '80 SC
Planning to replace the door seal (The one all around the frame opening for the door) On some of the mouldings there are no screws. Are some mouldings glued on? Snap-on? Do you just pull on them? Any help is appreciated.

The door seal is glued with contact cement (at least on the Coupes).
Not a tough job (once you untangle the new one and keep it that way while the contact cement dries out). You dont need to remove any screws, I always peel off the old and cleanup as much as I can the channel where the new one fits. Also, Its not a bad idea to prefit the new one so you now how it goes in, once you have the contact cement its no time to try to prefit. Personally I install them and then close the dorr to keep them in place overnight I know it is not necesary with contact cement but it gives me a comfort level. Hope that helps, |
I replaced the seal on my 87 Targa. Took off the bottom plate with 4-5 sheet metal screws, loosened the front kick panel, pulled out the old one, cleaned up the channel and put the new one in place. You may have to trim an inch or so off the end. Once you take the old one out, it's obvious. Total job took less than 30 minutes. The new seal may look grey, but will turn black with whatever type dressing you use (Armorall, etc.)
