Rear shocks
Installed stock shocks from our host to the rear of my 911. After torquing the bottom anchor bolts to the suspension , I still had about 1\4 inch of play. Are those bolts supposed to be snug?

What year 911 and what brand rear shocks?
Not that it matters as the bolts should be tight but would be helpful to know what you are working on.

Place your new and old shocks next to each other, are they the same?
As mentioned, needs to be snug.

Is the rubber bushing that goes in the end of the shock perhaps missing? That takes up some room on the sides.

Not sure about a 79 but my 88 has one big washer on each one between the bolt head and the eyelet on shock. It's good for at least a 1/8"

Sorry for the grainy pics.
Can any one see if something is missing? |

Is your car on jacks or otherwise suspended? It looks like my car/when I replaced my rear shocks as well, and caused me concern for the same reason you mentioned. Try lowering and report back, thanks!

+1 looks normal if jacked up. You did torque to spec, right?

it looks cross threaded to me - if you torque to spec and it is not hard against the shock then it is cross threaded

Looks like you have that picture on your phone and you took a picture of the picture...can you try emailing the picture to yourself from your phone, and then upload it directly from your computer, after retrieving it from your email?
