Replacing Key or ignition
Hey guys,
Last month I purchased a 1980 911SC. It was a bit of a barn find, and unfortunately we did not find the key. I went to Porsche and ordered a key using the vin number. Yesterday it arrived and the key opens the door but does not turn the ignition... Any advice on what to do next? Best regards and thanks! |

also note the engine is not in the car, not sure anything related to the engine being out could cause the ignition to lock or if the ignition doesnt match the key. There is no way to ask the previous owner if he changed it.

Locksmith
If u have a key that's 90 percent. Pull the ignition and take it and ur key to the locksmith or just call a mobile to move ignition tumblers to match the door key. U will save 100. By taking lock set to them. Old school lock guys do this. Pop a lock not so much good luck.

I have a similar situation with a '75 Targa. Locked the black-head master key in the trunk, the trunk release is locked (by the black-head key). I have the red-head valet key and can open and drive the car but can't get into the glove cpmt or into the trunk. I bought a black-head blank from Pelican a couple months ago but initial attempts at getting a locksmith to cut the blank were unsuccessful so now I have a blank that doesn't work and a valet key that doesn't get me into the trunk. Any suggestions? Should (Could) I use the valet key to pull the ignition to bring to a locksmith to get the black-head blank cut against the ignition tumblers?
